Um novo recinto desportivo na cidade de Braga ir acolher
espectculos desportivos ou outros, sendo o futebol o principal
motivo da sua construo. um projecto do Arquitecto Eduardo
Souto Moura.
Este Estdio acolher aproximadamente 30.000 pessoas a distribuir
por duas bancadas localizadas lateralmente ao campo e
desenvolvendo-se segundo a direco Norte/Sul. As condicionantes
topogrficas do local de implantao do Estdio levaram a "cavar"
esta obra num macio grantico que, na sua maior extenso, se
apresenta de excelente qualidade.
O projecto estabelece uma total dualidade entre os conceitos
estticos e de funcionamento estrutural, com a arquitectura a ser
essencialmente a estrutura. Com efeito, o conceito estrutural
subjacente concepo arquitectnica do Estdio assenta num
funcionamento conjunto da cobertura com as bancadas, pois as
foras devidas s aces permanentes e s sobrecargas actuantes
sobre as bancadas so parcialmente equilibrados pela reaco dos
cabos de pr-esforo da cobertura.
Basicamente, pode dizer-se que existem dois grandes grupos de
estruturas com funcionamento autnomo: o conjunto da bancada
Nascente, Cobertura e bancada Poente, e o "relvado".
A cobertura das duas bancadas uma nica estrutura constituda
por um sistema de cabos de pr-esforo ancorados em duas vigas
de grande rigidez orientadas na direco horizontal e executadas no
topo das duas bancadas. Nesses cabos, e apenas sobre as
bancadas, assenta uma lmina em beto armado constituda com
lajetas pr-fabricadas solidarizadas in situ. Ao longo dos bordos
inferiores das lminas, instala-se o sistema principal de iluminao e
som do Estdio.
A bancada Nascente apoia-se em paredes verticais em beto,
espaadas de 7,50 metros entre eixos. O espao entre as paredes
permite a circulao vertical de acesso bancada e a localizao
das instalaes sanitrias e dos bares. Estes espaos sero visveis
do exterior, constituindo "caixas" inseridas entre as paredes de
beto. As paredes fazem um ngulo de aproximadamente 62 com a
horizontal, tm uma altura de cerca de 45 metros e transversalmente
tm uma espessura de 1,0 metro. A cobertura de cabos de pr-
esforo que atravessam transversalmente o Estdio ao longo de um
vo de aproximadamente 200 metros, constitui uma aco
estabilizadora de todo este conjunto.
The new sports stadium that is being built for the city of Braga is
principally to stage football matches but other sports events will also
take place. The architect is Eduardo Souto Moura.
The stadium will accommodate approximately 30,000 spectators
seated in two stands positioned either side of the pitch. The playing
direction is North South. The local topography allowed the new
stadium to be partially buried in the solid granite terrain.
The design establishes a complete duality between the aesthetic and
structural concepts, with the architectural form resulting essentially
from the structural form.
The structural concept, that underpins the architectural conception of
the stadium, is based upon the objective of the roof structure and the
structure of the East stand acting together. That is, the roof cables
are prestressed to equilibrate partially the vertical dead loads that act
on the East stand.
Basically it can be said that there are two independent structures: the
cable roof , the East stand and the West stand, and the playing area.
The roofs of the two spectator stands are one single structure made
up of prestressing cables anchored in two large horizontal beams
that run along the top of each stand. The main lighting for the pitch is
installed along the front of each roof.
The East stand has inclined concrete walls spaced at 7.50 meters.
The spaces between these walls are used for vertical circulation and
auxiliary uses such as bars and WCs. Large circular openings in
these walls make the structures between the walls visible externally.
The backs of these walls make an angle of 62 with the horizontal
and with a thickness of 1.0 meter rise to a height of 45 meters. The
forces in the prestressed roof cables that span 200 meters across
the stadium reduce the overturning action on the inclined walls.
A bancada Poente apoia-se numa estrutura porticada que conter
os espaos necessrios localizao de todo o tipo de circulaes contain all the necessary spaces for the horizontal and vertical

diversos equipamentos. Os degraus das bancadas apoiam-se
directamente em vigas pr-esforadas inclinadas, ligadas ao topo
dos pilares.
A rea definida pelo "relvado" aproveitada inferiormente para
circulao pedonal de ligao entre as duas bancadas, para um
parque de estacionamento destinado a viaturas ligeiras e
autocarros , e ainda para a instalao de espaos tcnicos e de
segurana. As lajes sob o relvado so do tipo fungiforme com
capiteis troncocnicos, apoiadas em pilares de seco transversal
circular. O relvado do Estdio estar separado da estrutura das
bancadas por um fosso.
The West stand will be supported on a framed structure that will
circulation required for access to the seating areas as well as space
for various types of equipment. The seating units are supported
directly on prestressed inclined beams that are joined to the
columns.
The space below the playing area is used for pedestrian access
between the two stands, parking for cars and coaches and various
service areas. The structure that will support the playing area has
spans that are appropriate for the uses of the various spaces. The
horizontal structures consis t of concrete flat slabs supported on
circular columns with conical column heads. The playing area will be
separated from the stands by a moat.
