Brief Comment

In June 2007, according to the data from the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Tourism
revealed that the number of arrivals at the Phnom Penh International Airport increased by
0.89% -from 47,709 to 48,134 persons, against last months, and this number also represented
27.90% up that of the same period previous year, which made up of 37,634 persons. But, the
number of arrivals at the Siem Reap International Airport decreased by 8.36% -from 46,536 to
42,645 persons, and marked a 26.09% up compared to same period previous year, which
amounted to 33,822 persons, and the number of arrivals by land and boat fell by 17.18% against
last months, from 43,567 to 36,081 persons, and reflected a decrease by 12.95% over that of
the same period previous year, totalling 41,450 persons.
In June 2007, according to the data from the Ministry of Planning reported that, inflation
increase by 2.04%, compare to last months. Commodity prices on local markets presented a
increased. Of which, food prices reportedly an increased for example, the second quality price
up 10% -from 1,185 to 1,304 riels/kg, first quality beef price went up by 1% -from 17,600 to
17,776 riels/kg, Dressed chicken went up by 5%-from 12,500 to 13,125 riels/kg, mud fish
(large) increased by 2% -from 12,200 to 12,444 riels/kg. In the mean time, gasoline and diesel
price was remain stable at 3,950 riels/litre and 3,100 riels/litre. Overall, the annual inflation rate
year on year in June 2007 posted 5.78%.
In June 2007, according to the report from the Ministry of Commerce and World Bank showed
that, the most main commodity prices on the international markets presented up price compared
to those of preceding month. For example, the second quality rice price in Bangkok, Thailand
increased by 1.59% -from 295.8 to 300.5 US$/ton, cotton price in New York, USA rose by
5.06% -from 1,225 to 1,285 US$/ton, and oil brent price in London, UK increased by 5.63% -
from 67.5 to 71.3 US$/barrel. But, rubber price in Singapore decreased by 5.34% -from 2,395
to 2,267 US$/ton, gold price in Hong Kong, fell by 1.74% -from 667.3 to 655.7 US$/ounces,
log price in Malaysia depreciated by 1.53% -from 261.9 to 257.9 US$/m3, and the sugar price in
London, UK went down by 1.49% -from 207.9 to 204.8 US$/ton.
In June 2007, generally, the US dollar position continued to depreciate against the major
currencies in the world markets. For example, Thai bath increased by 3.38% -from 33.08 to
32.00 baht/dollar, Korean won went up by 0.64% -from 932 to 926 won/dollar. While, Euro
value was remain stable at 0.74 Euro/dollar. But, Japanese yen decreased by 1.42%from
121.59 to 123.32 yen/dollar, Vietnamese dong decreased by 0.92% -from 16,303 to 16,453
dong/dollar, and the Cambodian riel depreciated by 0.05% -from 4,083 to 4,085 riels/dollar.

In June 2007, according to the data from National Bank of Cambodia revealed that the total
liquidity went up by 6.40% -from 8,342 to 8,876 billion riels, compared to previous month.
This was contributed mainly to the increase of foreign currency deposit rose by 8.44% -from
6,482 to 7,029 billions riels, domestic credit (stock) went up by 4.88% -from 2,990 to 3,136
billion riels, and credit to the private enterprises increased by 4.71% -from 4,333 to 4,537
billion riels. But, and currency outside banks decreased by 0.77% -from 1,695 to 1,682 billion
riels. Net official reserve including gold in June 2007 could sustain more than 2.9 months of
retained imports of goods and services.

In June 2007, according to the data from the Customs and Excise Department of the Ministry of
Economy and Finance reported that total value of import increased by 10.43% -from 470,81 to
519,90 billion riels, compared to previous month. Of which, the import of cigarettes increased
by 14.47% -from 40,85 to 46,76 billion riels, the import of beer and soft drinks went up by
59.69% -from 3,20 to 5,11 billion riels, import of food and ingredients increased by 13.25% -
from 18,57 to 21,03 billion riels, and import cement rose by 76.06%-from 13,49 to 23,75 billion
riels. But, the import of medicine went down by 37.91% -from 21,10 to 13,10 billion riels, and
petroleum decreased by 2.29% -from 106,11 to 103,68 billion riels.
In June 2007, total value of export went up by 44.83% - from 220,01 to 318,63 million dollars
compared to last months. Of which, the export of clothing increased by 45.67% -from 206,18
to 300,34 millions dollars, the export of shoes rose by 37.50% -from 5,60 to 7,70 millions
dollars, the export of other textile products went up by 106.12% -from 1,47 to 3,03 million
dollars, and the export of fishing products rose by 15.13% -from 3,04 to 3,50 millions dollars,
and export rubber increased by 316.67% -from 0,06 to 0,25 million dollars.
In june 2007, the public finance reflected a decrease compared to previous month. Of which,
current revenue amounted 340.25 billion riels, increased by 1.89% against last months,
totalling 333.94 billion riels. This number also represented 17.55% up that of the same period
previous year, totalling 289.44 billion riels, and tax revenue increased by 2.88% -from 294.07
to 302.55 billions riels. But, non-tax revenue decline by 5.44% -from 39.87 to 37.70 billion
riels. In the same time, the current outlays on cash basis accounted for 226.98 billion riels,
representing a decrease of 25.86% against 306.16 billion riels last months. Overall, current
budget balance in first 6 month in 2007, posted a noticeable surplus of 589.79 billion riels.
