Everyone has seen that picture of that polar bear standing on ice floating in the water. The
picture represents global warming and what is happening to our animals. Why is there a polar
bear in the ocean floating on ice? The cause of this is people polluting our earth. To limit the
amount of polluting, Obama, our former president of the United States, developed a set of
regulations to limit the amount of carbon emissions as well as other greenhouse gases (Kaslar
and Sabalow). However, our current president, Donald Trump, is rolling back those rules Obama
created during his time in presidency to make sure our Earth will be in better shape. But, rolling
back these regulations can not only damage our environment, but it also affect human beings.
For example, out water that we drink from becomes contaminated. Our air as well will be more
filthy due to people not caring and polluting. Our air becoming more dirty also results in an
increase in kids having asthma (Mass DEP). If we continue polluting without regulations, there
are animals that will die off. Our contaminated water in our lakes, ponds, and rivers affect the
fish in the water. Just imagine the fish lying down on the beaches with no movement. Imagine
how filthy our air would look as it blocks the sunlight as it makes an attempt to peek through the
pollution clouds. President Trump has specific plans to dismantle Obamas policies to regulate
the amount of carbon being emitted into the environment. Trump has specific things he can do
Mustakis 2
while he rolls back these regulations such as create a set of better and friendly regulations.
However, this may take a long time. He could have kept Obamas regulations since they are
friendly enough. What Trump is doing is a wrong and a disgusting act. Our president, Donald
Trump, should not rollback these rules back during his presidency as it would make our
environment worse and rolling back these regulations can cause both our animals as well as
humans to become unhealthy. However, rolling back these regulations is supported because of
the amount of money that it will cost but, rolling back these regulations, would destroy our
People who are exposed to high levels of certain air pollutants can experience multiple
effects. For example, it is said to cause, irritation of the eyes, nose, or throat. Also, wheezing,
coughing, chest tightness, and breathing difficulties. What this also does is increase the risk of a
heart attack. (Mass DEP) Much like humans, it affects the wildlife. Studies show air toxins
contribute to birth defects, reproductive failure, and disease. As a result of pollution, the
population of both animals and humans will decrease due to the failure of reproduction, disease,
and heart attacks. If we want to remain healthy human beings there should be a decrease in
pollution. The increase in toxins also damages our crops and forests. Damage to forests and
crops also result from acid rain which is also due to pollution in the atmosphere (Mass DEP).
With the damage of trees, where will we get our oxygen? No where. Our crops getting destroyed
will have us with no crops like, wheat, potatoes, carrots, and more. Eutrophication is caused by
pollution as well. It is a condition in any body of water where high concentration of nutrients for
example, nitrogen, stimulate algae growing which can cause fish to die off and loss of plant of
animal diversity in the water (Mass DEP). The depletion of the ozone layer is also one of the
Mustakis 3
multiple effects of the disgusting act of pollution. Ozone is a gas that occurs both at ground level
and in the earths upper atmosphere. The Ozone layer is the layer that protects the earth from
harmful UV rays from the sunlight. If this gets destroyed, then the amount of skin cancer will
increase as well as cataracts and an impaired immune system in human beings. (Mass DEP).
Trump has specific ways to dismantle the laws created by Obama to regulate carbon
American people to get rid of wasteful regulations. How is these regulations according to
President Donald Trump, Wasteful? The regulations he is canceling are meant to help the
American people become healthier, to prevent crops from destroying, and have animals not
become extinct (Dlouhy). The Trump administration, is expected to issue the coming weeks
include one to suspend the governments use of a metric known as the social cost of carbon
until it can be reviewed and recalculated (Dlouhy). Trump, already signed legislation to repeal
an Obama-era regulation that required coal mining companies to clean up streams after they are
done with their work. Now, not having coal mine workers clean up the streams once they are
done working leaves the water to become contaminated. Our water becoming dirty causes the
Trump has limits, however, on what he can do as President and as he rolls back these
regulations. Obama issued a banning new leasing of coal mines on public lands during his
claimed, Anything that was done without a lot of process up from can be undone without much
process. This action taken by President Trump will be fast but however, it is not known what will
happen to peoples job. (Davenport). What Lazarus means is that there is a possibility about
Mustakis 4
people working in the coal mines will possibly lose their job. The social cost of carbon is $36 per
ton of damage inflicted by carbon pollution. Obamas E.P.A plugged the social cost of carbon
into formulas to create an economic justification for regulations to imoise a measurable cost on
polluters. It is expensive is which why people would support the rolling back of these
regulations. What Trump can do is create an economic rationale to undo those rules and replace
them with industry friendly ones (Davenport). Hopefully, Trump will do so to make our
environment safe and healthy but, he did state that Obamas similar policies was unnecessary so
it is a possibility he will not make these rules happen. Obamas waters of the United States
regulation gave the federal government broad latitude to limit pollution in major bodies of water.
Our current president, can revoke the rule. However, revoking the rule, will not be an easy task
for President Trump. Revoking this rule or putting an end to it, will make our water more filthy
due to the pollution and we wont have any cleaning water (Davenport). Therefore, rolling back
these regulations will not have us our clean water and this will be bad for the people.
President Donald Trump, should not roll back these regulations made by former President
Obama because it will cause our environment to be destroyed. There are many people with
asthma in the United States. With the regulations being rolled back, this can make asthma worse
or even cause people to be unhealthy. Also we will have people with more heart disease and
cataracts due to all the pollution in the environment. We will be called the garbage country rather
than a the land of the free. Imagine still what our Earth would be like. Our water contaminated,
the air that we breathe is contaminated from all the pollution that we had in the past, and animals
like the Polar bear, died off due to global warming. That is what earth will look like if we dont
do something about pollution. Trump should not rollback the regulations created by President
