Introduction
India is at the crossroad of transforming itself into a rapidly developing emerging market economy. The
inherent strength of the economy is also reflected by the resolve with which the country was able to come
out of recessionary trends, sooner than most other economies. However, this was not without its share of
the problems. The country still has a long way to go before its fundamentals are strong enough to resist
any kind of economic shock that the world may go through again. As India expands its role in the global
economy, there is an imminent need to strengthen its financial sector further in aiding economic
development and facilitate a smoother integration with the global financial markets. India has made rapid
progress in reforming the banking sector and securities markets. These reforms were undertaken within a
comprehensive package involving improved fiscal responsibility and enhanced central bank independence.

Objective of Conference
The objective of the conference is to bring together academicians and practitioners with research
interests in the field of finance. The conference provides a forum for disseminating research findings,
practices and techniques in finance and exchanging ideas among academicians and practitioners to
promote a better understanding of contemporary issues and solutions to the challenges which are faced
by the economy in respect of financial reforms.

Conference Sessions
Inaugural session: The Speaker would be an eminent corporate personality who would share
invaluable experiences and insights with the participants.

Technical Sessions: The purpose of these sessions is to present and discuss new and unpublished
research papers in the conference. The research paper presentations should be primarily of interest to
the academic community and practitioners. LBSIM invites academicians and researchers to share their
unpublished papers - case studies, empirical and practitioner papers - in the different areas of Finance.
Conference Sub-themes
The papers can be designed empirically on topics related to the theme of the conference. A list of
indicative/suggestive sub-themes is given below:

• Lessons from sub-prime crisis / Meltdown of sub prime crisis in various sectors

• Pricing of IPOs/FPOs , book building process.

• Financing medium and small enterprises by commercial banks.

• IFRS convergence in India

• Behavioral Finance

• Financial inclusion and role of banks.

• Innovative financial instruments

• Cost Management

• Multiplicity of regulators in the financial markets- rationale and resolution

• Stock market volatility

• Risk management in Banks

• Derivatives and risk management.

Call for Papers


Empirical and conceptual research papers are invited from academicians, industry practitioners,
research scholars and students, engaged in the field of management and finance on the above
mentioned sub-themes. The papers should not have been published elsewhere and should be relevant
to the overall conference theme.
Guidelines for submission of papers
1. Abstract in about 300 words should be submitted through electronic-mail by 25th May 2010 on the
following Email Ids - ajay@lbsim.ac.in , ashish@lbsim.ac.in deepaktandon@lbsim.ac.in
2. All manuscripts, with a size not exceeding 5000 words should be in English and typed in MS –
Office Word in Times New Roman (12-size font) in double space with a margin of 1” on both the
sides. All tables must be consecutively numbered using Arabic numerals with appropriate titles.
3. Footnotes should be listed consecutively in the text. Bibliographical references should be on a
separate sheet of paper by following APA style.
4. Each paper should contain a title page specifying the title of the paper, author’s full name,
telephone number and the email address of all the authors. Authors should not write their name and
affiliations any where else in the paper.
5. The abstracts/manuscripts will be subject to blind review process by a panel. Nature of the
research problem, implications of the proposed research, the quality of the research design, and the
original contribution of the research work to the literature will be used as a basis to determine the
suitability of the papers for presentation.

All the researchers interested in participating in the conference are requested to get registered by filling
the attached registration form. The registration fee for the conference:

Corporate Executives & Professionals INR 1500/-


Academicians INR 1000/-
PhD Students INR 750/-
Other Students INR 500/-

1. The registration should be done by 30th June , 2010 (Demand Draft/ Cheque should be made in favor of
LBSIM, payable at Delhi.).

2. Registration fee includes participation, conference kit, tea & lunch for 24th July 2010.
3. If the participant is attending the conference with a companion, an additional registration fee must be
paid.
4. Students and Ph.D Scholars must attach a certificate from the supervising head or the head of the
institute.
5. Registration fee is non-refundable.
6. Accommodation may be facilitated on extra charges.
7. Selected papers will be published . in LBS Journal of Management & Research.

Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for excellence in public administration Academics and Management was
instituted by LBSIM. The honor carries an ward of Rs. One Lakh a Citation and a Plaque. The Awardees are
designated as Lal Bahadur Shastri Fellows and their names are inscribed on the roll of honor of the Institute. The
award is conferred every year by the honorable President of India, at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Recipients of the
