End of Semester Reflection

My first semester of college was one full of learning opportunities both inside and outside

the classroom. I learned that I do like biology, my current major, but loathe the other classes that

come with it, such as chemistry. I did not do as well in Chemistry as I had hoped I would, but I

did manage to prosper in Biology. I failed to build relationships with my professors or any staff

for that manner. This is a foolish choice I cannot afford to continue to make as I continue my

college education. Next semester I plan to foster relationships with my professors and take

advantage of all the opportunities offered to me. I was able to get a few volunteer hours in, but

not a substantial amount. I am currently exploring some options for a change of my major. I

joined two student ministries, Black Student Alliance, and Circle K. I attended meetings and

events hosted by these organization. Next semester I plan to start making my way into leadership

positions or holding any type of position at some of these organizations mentioned. I believe this

college experience has helped me grow as a person as I have learned to live away from my

mother and take true responsibility for my education. I have managed to network decently and

form many bonds of friendship with my peers.

For the spring semester of 2017 I plan to get more involved in campus organizations. I

ran for the Honors College Council and I actually got elected by my peers. I am very excited to

take on this new and exciting role next semester. I am also currently in the middle of my

application for freshman senate for next semester. Becoming an active member and holding a
leadership position in Black Student Alliance and Intervarsity will help me develop my

leadership qualities and execute my creative ideas for the campus to enjoy. I would also like to

participate in the Miss Black and Gold Alpha Phi Alpha pageant show for next fall, but sign ups

are in the spring. Next semester, I will volunteer more often and try to be more involved in the

Chattanooga community. I would like to join a political organization, Black Student Alliance,

and Intervarsity. I plan to actively search for internships to be involved with in Nashville for this

summer and in Chattanooga for the fall of 2017. I also plan to get an on campus job for the fall

semester to help pay for school.
