2.2 Environment
Before installing a DCPD6 PDU, ensure that:
l The installation site passes the environment acceptance check, and the Environment
Acceptance Report is prepared.
l The installation personnel get access permission to the site.
l The site and the DCPD6's peripheral devices are properly grounded.
l The power supply for the DCPD6 is ready.
l The cabinet for the DCPD6 is installed, and is grounded with a cable whose
cross-sectional area must not be smaller than 16 mm2.

2.3 Safety Precautions

Observe the following precautions during DCPD6 installation:
1. The installation must be performed by professionals. Turn off the power supply to the
DCPD6 to prevent electric shocks.
2. The product must be installed at a safe area.
3. The power cables must be connected in a safe manner to prevent electric shocks in
future maintenance.
4. The actual current to the DCPD6 must be lower than the rated current 100 A.
5. The telesignalling function of the DCPD6 is achieved through dry contacts, whose
uncharged alarm output must be connected to the circuit. The external alarm signal
cable must be a cable with intensified insulation to avoid contact with high-voltage
components of the power supply. The current in the cable must be lower than 0.5 A.
6. Install the grounding cables first when installing the DCPD6, and remove the grounding
cables last when removing it.

3.1 Installation Overview

DCPD6 PDUs fall into two models of Power Distribution Unit (PDU), whose installation
procedures are the same. This chapter takes the installation procedure for a DCPD6 model
as an example.

Table 3-1 DCPD6 PDU Models

Model Demand Description

DCPD6 Power supply for RRU, BBU Provides nine paths of DC power output, and a 20 A
equipment circuit breaker for each path. The nine paths have
lightning protection.

DCPD6A Power supply for IDU, Provides nine paths of DC power output, and a 10 A
microwave equipment circuit breaker for each path. The nine paths do not
have lightning protection.

3.2 Unpacking for Inspection

1. Check whether the packing box for a DCPD6 PDU is damaged. If damage is found,
contact the related logistics company.
2. Unpack the DCPD6 PDU and check the number of product components according to
the packing list, see Table 3-2.

3.3 Installing a DCPD6 PDU

This procedure describes how to install a DCPD6 PDU.

Steps
1. Secure four mounting nuts at the locations mentioned in the site design document.
2. Install the PDU equipment.
Wear an Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) wrist strap. Insert the PDU slowly into the
corresponding slot, and then secure the four screws on the panel of the PDU, see
Figure 3-1.

Figure 3-1 Inserting a DCPD6 PDU into the Slot

3. Connect a protective grounding cable to the grounding pole.

Remove the protective grounding nut by using a cross screwdriver. Mount the OT
end of a grounding cable to the grounding pole, and then install the flat washer,
spring washer, and M6 nut. Secure the Nut. The other end of the grounding cable
is connected to the grounding interface on the equipment, the protective grounding
cable whose cross-sectional area must not be smaller than 16 mm2, see Figure 3-2.

3.4 Installing Power Input Cables

This procedure describes how to install power input cables.

Context
The specification requirements for input power cables are as follows:
l 16 mm2 (optional), with total input current not more than 80 A.
l 25 mm2 (optional), with total input current more than 80 A and less than 100 A.

Caution!
Before installing power cables, ensure that the switch of the power supply unit is turned
off.

Steps
1. Remove the protective cover for the DC-IN interface by using a cross screwdriver. see
Figure 3-3.
2. Loosen the two M6 screws at the left of the DC-IN interface, see Figure 3-3.

3. Connect the OT end of a power input cable to the DC-IN interface, and secure the
screws, see Figure 3-4.
The blue core is connected to the -48 V interface, and the black core is connected to
the -48 V RTN interface.

Note:
According to the standard on cables, the -48 V GND cable core must be black or brown.

4. Install the protective cover, see Figure 3-4.

3.5 Installing Power Output Cables

This procedure describes how to install power output cables.

Context
The diameter of output power cables ranges from 2.5 mm2 to 10 mm2.
A DCPD6 PDU uses front leading-out cabling, which does not occupy separate room.

Chapter 3 Equipment Installation

Caution!
Power output cables connected with an outdoor device are wrapped with a shielding layer.
The layer must be connected to the outdoor grounding bar before the cables are led indoor.

Steps
1. Make the power output cables.
Strip part of the insulation jacket at one end of a cable. Use a crimper to make a ripple
shape on the cable core, see Figure 3-5.
2. Install the power output cables.

Press the socket above the DC-OUT interface by using a straight screwdriver, and
insert the blue core into the -48 V interface (indicated by a silk print); then press the
socket below the DC-OUT interface by using a straight screwdriver, and insert the
black core into the -48 V GND interface (indicated by a silk print), see Figure 3-5.

Figure 3-5 Installing the Power Output Cables

3. Remove the straight screwdriver. The power output cables will be secured
automatically. Pull the cables to ensure they are tightened.
4. Ground the shielded layer wrapping the power output cables if the cables provide
power supply for outdoor remote devices, see Figure 3-6.

3.6 Installing Alarm Signal Cables

This procedure describes how to install alarm signal cables.

Context
A DCPD6 PDU has the remote signalling alarm function. The power alarm information is
transmitted through alarm signal cables (dry contact cables).

Steps
1. Lead the alarm signal cables for an external device to the DCPD6 PDU.
2. Loosen the screws at interface 1 and interface 3 of the protection and monitoring
terminal.
3. Insert the alarm signal cables into interface 1 and interface 3, and secure the screws,
see Figure 3-7.

There is no polarity difference between interface 1 and interface 3.

4. Insert the protection and monitoring terminal into the LP-ALM interface of the DCPD6
PDU, see Figure 3-7.
