Tema 1. El agua del planeta Tierra.

A1. Elabora dos grficos de sectores aproximados donde resumas los porcentajes de distribucin de agua
en la Tierra. El primero de ellos sobre la distribucin total de agua (dulce/salada) y el segundo sobre cmo
se reparte el agua dulce.

Lesson 1. Where is water on Earth?

WATER IS AN AMAZING SUBSTANCE

Water is a very common substance on the Earth and in other places of the Universe. On Earth, it is the
only substance that can be found in the three states in a natural way. It is a chemical compound formed
by molecules. Each molecule is formed by two atoms of hydrogen and one oxygen atom (H2O). The form
and the nature of its molecules give water some astonishing properties:
When the temperature goes down from 4oC to 0oC, water expands (the opposite of the other
substances). Therefore, when it freezes (at 0oC), the density diminishes.
Frozen water floats on liquid water. Thanks to this, in rivers, lakes and seas, fish can live in winter
although the surface is frozen.
