SYNOPSIS In this chapter, how energy sources are broadly classified with examples for each classification is explained. The current energy scenario in the world and India is described. The energy conservation technique to reduce the energy consumption thus reducing the energy costs is explained. The list of objectives and issues addressed by energy conservation act 2001 is explained. Summarized the points in electrical distribution code with respect to the supply systems. The standard for electrical equipments is discussed. The broad features of regulations and legislations like the Indian electricity act-1910, the electrical supply act-1948, the Indian electricity rules-1956, the electricity regulatory commission act-1998, the electricity act-2003 with other legal provisions are explained.
