Nordic Paper conducts business that influences on the environment. The companys
production units are covered by governmental regulatory permits. These mainly
regulate discharges to water, emissions to air as well as production and consumption
of energy, usage and handling of chemicals, waste and noise.
The SHE policy is included in the business policy of Nordic Paper reads:
The policy deals with aspects regarding the working environment as well as the
external environment. This report describes the aspects regarding the latter. Nordic
Paper strives for continuously improving environmental performance. A closer
description of each production units actual situation, activities carried out in 2015
and planned activities for 2016 is given below.

Nordic Paper Greker is a specialty paper mill solely based on external pulp and other
raw materials. The mill got a new permit in 2007. The mill has two paper machines
and a permit to produce up to 30.000 net tons of greaseproof paper per year.
In 2015 the mill had a net production of 34.000 tons. This is more than 10 % above
the production-permit. This point is addressed to the government who wants to await
our comments to the BAT-conclusions, before establishing any new production-
permit.
a) Discharges to water
The discharge from the mill to the river has increased in 2015. This can largely be
attributed to a large increase in production where an important discharge source is
water coming from the press-sections on the two machines.
This summer an important investment project will be to close up the press-sections
on the machines, installing so called extraction pumps on all presses.
On monthly, floating averages for SS/day, the mill has been above the limits for a
few days in 2015. The problems have first of all been related to a major
mechanical breakdown in the Algas-filter. Steps have been taken to avoid this in
the future and the deviations have been reported to the government.

b) Emissions to air
The mills emissions to air are mainly connected with the steam production which is
based on liquid natural gas (LNG) and electricity. In 2015 the mill has run 52 % of
the time on LNG and 48 % of the time on electricity.

Nordic Paper Seffle is an integrated mill consisting of a sulphite pulp mill and a
specialty paper mill with two paper machines. In 2001 the mill got a new permit,
including several temporary limit values as well as requirements for certain
investments. These include a dry debarking plant, a closed screening plant and a
biological waste water treatment plant. These investments, together with noise
reducing investments and actions to reduce emissions of SO2, have been carried out.
The mill has a production limit of 50.000 tons of screened pulp and 50.000 tons of
greaseproof paper. Except from energy recovery from black liquor in Boiler 1, the
energy production takes place in Boiler 2, the Electricity boiler at ngcentralen
(C). Boiler 2 is fired with bark, wood chips, wood powder or oil. The bark comes
both from Nordic Paper and from external deliverers.
SO2 emissions to air and energy, was dissolved in court in 2010, with a court order in
February 2011. New limit came into force 1/1 2013
Final judgment for water discharge received 19 June 2012.
All water from production processes is treated in the biological treatment plant that
also combined with a chemical treatment steps. The waste water from the paper mill
and pulp mill / bleach plant treated separately.

b) Emissions to air
Emissions to air are regulated regarding SO2, NOx and dust. Emission of SO2 is
mainly from the recovery boiler. In addition, there are some diffuse emissions. These
are not included in the figures below. The table below shows average figures per year.

Bckhammar is participating in the trade system for CO2 emissions implying that the
mill follows strict rules regarding accounting and reporting of fossil CO2 emissions.
Emission of NOx from the solid fuel boiler is included in the national fee system for
NOx.

a) General
Nordic Paper motfors is a paper mill producing niche qualities of kraft paper solely
based on external pulp produced from virgin fibres originating from Bckhammar.
The mill has two paper machines with a total capacity of about 50.000 tons of paper.
The mills permit was given in 1993 and it has a production limit of 56.000 tons of
paper
In 2009 a waste energy plant was built next to the mill. The plant is owned and
operated by a separate limited company under the name of motfors Energi AB.
The plant started operations in February 2010 and deliver all the needed thermal
energy and parts of the electric power at the needed at the paper mill.
The mill has an electric boiler as a reserve which has been run for some periods
during 2015 due to low prices on electricity.
According to a mutual agreement between motfors Mill and motfors Energy, the
paper mill must pay for motfors Energys CO2 allowances and electric quota
certificates.
b) Discharges to water
All water from the production processes is led to a fibre recovery plant, then to a
sedimentation stage. Finally, the water is adjusted for pH before it is let out in the
river Kroppstalven. The mill has discharges as shown in the table below, measured
as average per year.
Emissions to air
Limit values as set by the courts are now irrelevant as all thermal energy is bought from
motfors Energi AB. The electric back-up boiler is still situated at the mill, but as it is run on
electricity there are no emissions originating from the mill.

Nordic Paper motfors has from time to time had problems with the noise level at
the nearest neighbours. A reference measuring was done in January 2010, before the
energy plant was put in operation. The results showed acceptable values, values
between 29 and 42 dB.
A series of new imission measurement was held in 2015, and measurements were all
slightly below the permit level.
