Energy transfer through different

mediums can be explained using wave We are learning to describe convection, conduction and radiation
and particle models (ACSSU182) and relate this to real life situation such as an electric circuit.

Plan, select and use appropriate

investigation types, including field
Students will be heading to do an investigation of energy transfer
work and laboratory experimentation,
to collect reliable data; assess risk and
using a circuit within the Lap. They will be completing a wind
address ethical issues associated with Turbine investigation
these methods (ACSIS165)

Learning and Academic Context

Learning: Students are from middle

class families & some dysfunctional
families. Boys are particularly prone to
off task behaviour.

Academic: This is a double lesson

which takes place twice a week.

Support: Teaching Assistant : None

Success Criteria (What I am Looking For):
Learning Objectives (What We Are Learning
Today) Students can identify examples of
circuits.
All Students: Students can define the role of a
circuit in regards to the Wind Turbine Students can create a circuit following
Investigation. instructions from a teacher.

Most Students: Students can successfully Students are able to conduct Wind
complete a circuit in the Wind Turbine Turbine investigation and discussion
Experiment. following the completion of experiment.
A few students: Can reflect on previously
learned knowledge of a circuit and energy
transfer and relate it to current investigation.

Time Activity Resources
Introduction
Review Static Electricity using Questions from Science World
Book to refresh students knowledge
10m Discuss how today we are going to focus on the other from of
electricity: Electrical Current
Origen of the Circuit

Energizer Prac
Investigation #10- Simple Electric Circuits
o Energy Circuit Investigation
1 wire, bulb & battery
2 wire , bulb & battery
20m o Using a Switch Science World pg 117
3 wire, bulb & battery
Switch, bulb & battery

Allow students to attempt and figure out how to complete the circuit
without providing them all the information.

Directed Learning
Discuss with students the different between Static & Current
Electricity. What is the difference between the pracs we did for
static vs current
o Flow vs Build up Charge

Explain Electrical Current:

10m o Electrons moving along a wire
o Energy transference
o When a circuit is formed the energy has a path to take
when it is not it is stationary
o Batteries supply electrons and when the battery is
placed in a device those electrons have a path to follow
to reach their positive destination and give of an electric
reaction
Independent Learning
Show students the different types of circuits complex and
10m simple. Show them the slide of the symbols for drawing
circuits. Have them write it in their books

Redo Prac
Have students do the same prac again but this time have them
write in the book using the circuit symbols what they have
done.
1 wire, bulb & battery
20m 2 wire , bulb & battery
3 wire, bulb & battery
Switch, bulb & battery
Have students tidy up area so there is no clean up needed
after video concludes.
