1- Clothing
1-Divide in subcategories:
-Tops (shirts)
-Bottoms (pants, shorts)
-Clothes that should be hung (jackets, coats)
-Socks
-Undewear
-Bags
-Accessories
-Clothes for specific events (swimsuits, kimonos, uniforms)
-Shoes
1.1-Gather all clothes in one spot.
-Select the ones who bring you joy and discard the ones you don't intend to
use or don't like.
-think about every iten. Don't let yourself get distracted by music or other
people.
1.2-Folding
-the objective is to fold every piece of clothing into a rectangle.
-fold each lenghtwise side of the garment toward center.
-tuck the sleeves in, to make a long rectangular shape.
-pick up one short end of the rectangle and fold it in half.
-then fold it again, in halves or in thirds.
-the number of folding should be adjusted so that the folded clothing standi
ng on edge fits the height of the drawer.
1.3-Closet organization
-hang clothes by category. Ex.: jacket section, suit section,
-or hang heavier itens on the left and lighter to the right.
1.4-underwear(cueca)
-Follows the same principle as shirts.
-fold it in half, leghtwise. fold the area that sticks out to make a perfect
rectangle.
-fold it two times. the first time the bottom has to end before the waistban
d, fold it again.
1.5-Sock and stockins storage
-don't make balls/tie your socks.
-ankle socks: place socks on top eachother, vizualise three cuts, starting f
rom the toes to the ankle, fold twice.
-regular/knee socks: place socks on top eachother, vizualise 4 to 6 cuts, st
arting from the toes to the ankle, fold 4 to 6 times.
1.6-shorts and pants
-Follows the same principle as shirts.
-fold it in half, leghtwise. fold the area that sticks out to make a perfect
rectangle.
-For shorts. Visualise three cuts. fold from bottom to the waistband.
-For pants. Fold the bottom to the waist. Visualise Three cuts, fold it two
times
2- Books
-Remove all the books from shelves and put then on the floor.
2.1-divide in 4 categories:
-General(books you read for pleasure).
-Practical(references, cookbooks, etc.).
-Visual(photograph, collections).
-Magazines.
2.2-Criteria
-Criteria is "does it give you pleasure when you touch it?"
2.3-Books to keep
-Books that move you.
-Book you need
3- Paper
-Rule of thumb- Discard everything.
3.1- categories to keep:
-Currently in use (work)
-needed for a limited amount of time (work,study)
-must be kept indefinitely. (documents)
3.2- leave sentimental value papers for later.
3.4- lecture materials
-if you haven't read in a while, you'll probably never use it.
3.3- Credit card statements
-you don't need then.
3.4- Warranties
-keep it in ONE FILE for the necessarie time, after that discard it.
-watch for manuals and other things that come with it.
3.5- greeting cards
-throw away the ones that are not special for you.
3.6- payslips
-After you check it, you don't need it.
4- Komono(Miscelanius)
-Keep things because you love them, not just because.
4.1- Sorting order:
-CDs, DVD's
-Skin care
-Makeup
-Accessories
-Valuables (passports, credit cards,etc)
-Electrical equipment (digital cameras, electric cord, electric stuff)
-Household equipment (writing material, sewing kit)
-Household supplies (expendables like medicine, detergents, tissues)
-Kitchen goods/food supplies (spactulas, pots, blenders)
-Others (spare change, figurines, etc.)
4.2- If you have something of a particular interest/hobby treat it as a single c
ategory.
4.3- keep what you love.
4.4- Electronic packages
-discard it as you unpack it
4.5- Unindentified cords
-if you don't know what's for, you probably don't need it.
4.6- Broken Appliance
-recycle or throw away
4.7- Free novelty goods
-calendar,post-its with company names, plastic cups won on a fair.. none wil
l bring you joy.
4.8- small change
-go into your wallet
5- sentimental items
-No matter how wonderful things used to be, we cannot live in the past. The
joy and excitement we feel here and now are more important.
