Option 1:
Identify a recent or upcoming assignment based on a specific learning goal and success
criteria. Then, collect five (5) samples of student work and use the feedback ladder to
craft one to three statements of effective feedback for each sample. Record these
pieces of feedback to share with the group.
Feedback
Value: Good mood choice (angry/concerned) because the text evidence shows
why Ruth was angry (like a dead woman)
Clarify: Please clarify. How does the music create the depressed mood? What
elements create the depressed mood? (Student example: background music)
Is there text evidence stating that Walter does want to find Willy? Is this
different from what you viewed in the video? (Student example is incorrect
Walter does want to find Willy in both the video and the text)
A concern with your writing is that you should avoid directly stating what you
are writing about, Therefore my thesis statement and hook will be connected because
they will use similar details and explanations.
Suggest: Can you think of a way to connect your topic/hook sentence to your
second sentence without stating, I did this because... Use transition words or
describe your reasoning without using the pronoun I. (Student example: Family
is a group of individuals with common characteristics. I did the definition of family because in A
Raisin in the Sun its about a family in the south side of Chicago who is worrying about a check
coming in the mail that could help their family.)
Reflection:
The most challenging part of designing effective feedback was being too
negative with offering concerns or issues.
