1. 1948-1960 Malayan emergency


a. Malayan guerrilla war between 2 sides:
i. Commonwealth armed force (official
government)
ii. Malayan national liberation army (MNLA) (Army
of Malayan communist party)
b. Causes:
i. Imbalance in economic between races.
ii. Colonization by England.
c. Result:
i. Communist party lost:
1. large rejection after assasination
of Sir Henry Gurney.
2. Declaration of Amnesty.
2. Assasination of Sir Henry Gurney.1951
a. Sir Henry Gurney was British colonial administrator of Malaysia
at 1951, so MCP assasinate him.
b. This cause a wide range of rejection of Malayan toward MCP.
3. 1957,Independence of Federation of Malaya.
a. Federation of Malaya independence Act:
i. An act of Parliament in the United Kingdom,
which make federation of Malaya(Today Malaysia) an independent
nation.
4. 1963, Merge between Singapore, North Borneo, and Sarawak, with the
Federation of Malaya:

5. 1967, August,8th, Founding of ASEAN
a. Malaysia and 4 other countries in Southeast Asia found an
association.

minister.
iii. Increase tension between races.
7. 1998 - 2005, Anwar Ibraham trials.
a. Well-Known as :
i. considerable political controversy, because this
trial happened just after Anwar Ibrahim lost his power.
ii. Human right of LGBT in Malaysia.

1. Fourth prime minister of Malaysia, served from 1981 to 2003, this make him
became the longest-serving holder of that office.

- Anwar Ibraham
1. Leader of opposition party in Malaysia from 2008 to 2015
2. Served as the Deputy prime minister of Malaysia from 1993 to 1998
3. His two trials are known as political controversy and reflect on LGBT right.

Interesting fact: 1. King Rama 9 (Bhumibol Adulyadej) used to fight in Malayan Emergency
for Anti-Communist side.

Malaysia important days:


1. national day: 31st, August. In 1957, Malaysia get freedom from England at
this day.
2. The first day of Muharram, it is the first day of new year in Muslim calendar.

Malaysia flag:
Composed of a field of 14 alternating red and white stripes along the fly a blue canton with a
crescent and a 14-point star on it. The 14 stripes represent equality between 13 states and
federal government, while 14 points of the star represent the utility of these states. Crescent
represent the Islam, which is the official religion of Malaysia. The blue canton represent
Malaysian people.

Malayan tiger:
Malayan tiger is the national animal of Malaysia, two tigers are depicted supporters of
Malaysia. Tigers symbolise bravery and strength to Malaysia

1. Lee Kuan Yew (Born on September 16, 1923)


- served as the prime minister for Singapore from 1959 until 1990 and

was the longest serving prime minister in history. He was born into a wealthy

Chinese family that resided in Singapore


2. Lee Hsien Loong
- is a Singaporean politician and the current Prime Minister of Singapore. In

2004, Lee became the nation's third prime minister after taking over the leadership of

the People's Action Party (PAP) when former prime minister Goh Chok Tong stepped

down from the position


3. Tony Tan
- A Singaporean politician and the seventh President of Singapore, in office

since 2011.

- Singapore have been under Britain for a long time in a colonial rule so Britain

- The reason Singapore joined Malaysia is because Singapore wanted to

raised the economic because Singapore is a small country so they needed help.

- So the reason why Singapore leaves Malaysia is because the politics,

opportunities, etc are not fair for Singapore.

dont have a capital. The other two are Monaco and the Vatican City.

KFC

Singapore National Flag:

- The red stripe in the flag of Singapore represents democracy, equality of man

and worldwide brotherhood. White symbolizes virtuousness as well as purity. The

waxing crescent moon stands for the rise of the young country towards development

and the five stars are meant to signify equality, growth, peace, justice and

democracy.

- Vesak Day, the full moon day of the fourth lunar month, is the most important

annual event for the Buddhist community in Singapore. Vesak Day usually falls in the

month of May and commemorates the birth, enlightenment and final nirvana of the

Buddha.
- Deepavali or the Festival of Lights is the most important festival in the Hindu

calendar and the most significant festival for the Indian community in Singapore.

Deepavali usually falls in the month of October or November and celebrations begin

weeks ahead in the Indian ethnic quarter of Little India.

Singapores Merlion

- Its name combines "mer", meaning the sea, and "lion". The fish body

represents Singapore's origin as a fishing village when it was called Temasek, which
means "sea town" in Javanese. The lion head represents Singapore's original name

Singapurameaning "lion city" or "kota singa".
