Abstract: one of the most severe effects of Parkinson's disease are respiratory
changes, which leads to a decrease in chest expansion and lung volumes, besides
postural changes, muscle stiffness and tremble at rest. In this case, can be used the
Crochetagem technique at external intercostal muscles, which is used through a
friction causing deep hyperemia and flushing, which causes a better muscular
response, thereby conducting to a satisfactory chest enlargement. This study aims to
prove the efficacy of Crochetagem technique in patients with decreased chest
expansion due to Parkinson's disease. The study was performed in a patient of 51
years, which presents respiratory restrictions. Five consecutive sessions of
Crochetagem technique were developed at external intercostal muscles. Spirometry
was used to evaluate the forced vital capacity (FVC). This procedure was performed
before and after the technique only in the first and last sessions of treatment. The
spirometer showed an increasing of vital capacity in 24% at the 1 atendiment and
27% at the last one.

estruturas do trax e a expansibilidade pulmonar.
fisiologia natural do indivduo.
paciente (NASCIMENTO, 2007).
