Objective
Our objective was to demonstrate physics concept
of electricity, air friction and free fall. Demonstrated by
the homemade drone.

Background/Information
Background - A drone is technological aircraft,
known as a unmanned aerial vehicles or unmanned
aircraft systems. Drone is flying robot which can be
control by a remote or can also fly autonomously.
Nowadays, drone was created for observing, spying but
mostly use for bird eyes view photography.
Introduction - In our project, drone was created for
demonstrate how the electricity and air friction work. So
we wont make the remote because we dont have to
control it. We just show that the drone can fly. Our group
will place the stick to be base and put the drone in the
middle of the stick. Then we put a bottle cap on the top
of the stick so the drone not fly away.
Materials

Styro foam
Spherical Foam
Electric Arc Proof Tape
Plastic Wings
Wire
Hot glue
Battery
Wooden Base
Wooden stick
Set-up

In this project we are creating a Handmade Drone, the

objective is to make it be able to fly. We choose to use a foam
to make the body and all the legs, because the weight is very
light. So it will not require too much energy to fly up. Also all the
legs, we design it to be able to stand steady by let it be a part of
the wings.
Discussion of physics Concept

In this project, the first concept we covered was

electricities. The drone was designs to fly by using four motors
that is connected by wires that is also connect to battery. The
energy from battery are shared among four motors. The motors
receive an equal amount of energy so that they are a equal
speeds so that the drone are balanced. The propellers created
winds that pushed the drone up. Not only that it have to push
the weight of the drone, but also have to go against the
gravitational force/pulling force. Thats mean the propellers
needed to created enough strong wind to make the drone fly.
The air friction is another factor that are considered. When the
force of the wind pushing up the air above the drone can affect
the speed and direction of the drone. When the drone reached
the top and the batteries stop the concept that came in is free
fall. The drone will pick up more speed as it go down. The
speed of free fall can be reduced by activating the motors and
propellers so that the drone doesnt hit the ground too hard.
Discussion of design (Step by step)

At first, we draw all the wings on the styrofoam to make an

outline of the wings, and then use cutter to cut all the wings.
After that we separate into four position equally for the wings.
And stick it with the spherical foam using hot glue. Attach all
four motors to each wing with hot glue. Also attach the propeller
on each motor. Make a hole at the center of the drone to put a
wooden stick in it. And then stick the wooden stick to middle of
the base with hot glue. And at the top of the wooden stick we
attach with a lid to stop the drone from flying out of range. We
connected all the red wires together and the black wires
together. After those were connected, we connect those wire to
the battery. The red connected the the black and black
connected to red. Doing this make the propellers spin and
created wind. Between the battery and drone there are a switch
which will make the drone fly after pressing the button.
Data and records

Height Number of Time (m/s)

battery
Trial 1 0 m. 1 (7 v) 5 sec.
Trial 2 0 m. 1 (7 v) 10 sec.

Trial 3 - 7.4 V 3 sec

Trial 4 45.5 cm 7.4 V 2.5 sec

Analysis Of Data

For the first trial, the drone didnt fly.The reason is the way
of wing spinning were wrong. Four of the wings of the drone is
spinning in the same way which is clockwise. This make the
drone spinning around and not fly. So, the solution is changes
the way of the wings spinning.
For the second trial, after making the changes of the
propellers. Found out that the one spinning counter clockwise
created the wind upward and not downward. The solution is to
change the propellers so that it could the wind in direction that
we wanted.
For the third trial, it flies but while it flow up one of the wing
has broke due to the stopper because it hit to hard. So, the
solution is wrapping something around the foam part of the
drone to make it stronger.
For the last trial, after making the changes of the
propellers. Found out that the one spinning counter clockwise
created the wind upward and not downward. The solution is to
change the propellers so that it could the wind in direction that
we wanted.

Conclusion

The energy from the battery was sent to the drone giving
powers to the motors. The electron was stopped by the switch
which act as a resistors in this case. After the motors were
powered, the propellers will spin. The wind have to lift up the
weight of the drone plus the gravitational force that is pulling
down. If the wind created were not enough the drone will not
fly. The energy that needed to transfer also needed to be
enough as well to make the motors spin fast enough. The
structure of the drone are also important due to that it should
have light weight it also have to be strong enough so that it
doesnt break when it reach the stopper at the top.

Recommendation
The wings of the drone need to spinning in the clockwise
and anti clockwise to push the wind down and fly up. Two of the
wings that opposite side each other need to spin with clockwise
and another two with anti clockwise.
