STICKY: p.29,33,34 Assessment Guide
Familiarize yourself with the comprehension conversation rubrics
Possibly do with kids!! p.29!
Explain the task to students, explain its not a speed test
Look over rubrics
#1-Coding and Scoring
Make check mark on top for lower el (so kids are not distracted if you suddenly write
something), upper el ok to leave blank if they are fast
Anything above your written line is student talk
Repetitions, use R next to word, use arrow to where phrase started the repeat
Use R2 and R3 for additional repeats
Appeal: now a Y for You Try It
Errors: sounding it out, Spelling is Uppercase above line
Proper nouns are only counted once as an error. (names, titles)
Its/It is counts as one error, all contractions are only one error
Speech/dialect issues (ax for ask) are not errors
SCORING is big, lets save for another date!
Analyzing Errors
Up to the point of error!

Meaning: Does the error have any impact on meaning of the story? Circle M

Structure: Does the error make sense grammatically up to the point of error?
Circle S

Visual: Does the printed text have visual similarity to the error? Circle V
Whats a COMPREHENSION CONVERSATION?

A COMPREHENSION CONVERSATION
moves from just accuracy to thinking in all 3 areas.

Gives you insight into their thinking BEYOND the

text, and ABOUT the text, as well as how they
summarize WITHIN the text.
What is a conversation?
1. You say something.
2. Your friend comments on what you said.
3. You add more.
4. Your friend asks a question.
5. You answer and make another comment.
6. Your friend says more.
