System Configuration
The Conning Display System is able to receive information from various sensors.
The Conning Display System can adopt information either in analogic or in serial
data format which is sent by the sensors, makes navigation calculation from
received data and shows this information on Conning Display.
Communication co-processor is used to collect data from sensors and to send
data forward to main processor.
The Conning System can be connected to up to eight sensor which send analogic
data and up to eight sensors which send serial data.

CO-PROCESSOR PROCESSOR

-ECHO SOUNDER
-RUDDER -WIND SENSOR
-PROPELLERS -GYRO
-THRUSTERS -DOPLER
-LOG -R.O.T.
-POS EQ.
After installation to get Conning Display program to run, all you need to do is
switch power on. The program has designed so that it will logon automatically to
Windows NT and will start automatically run the Conning Display program after
power has switched on.
In this window user can monitor actual R.O.T, which is displayed as numerical
information in an upper box and below this box same value is shown with
direction by horizontal bar.
This part of conning display is called Thruster window. In this example there
are both bow and stern thrusters connected to the system. The following
information is displayed in this window:
Bow indicates absolute value of bow thruster
Stern indicates absolute value of stern thruster.
If you have entered WPs to GPS receiver, it is possible to view information for
next WP. The system will calculate bearing, range and ETA information
received from connected GPS.
General
Datum is a mathematical model of the earth, based on which the sea chart has
been made. Datum connects together the positioning and the sea chart. If the
Datum of position sensor and the sea chart are different, a transformation has to
be made somewhere in the system. Not doing so can result in errors of several
sea miles. Generally, it can be assumed that the error is at least of the magnitude
of a cable (0.1 NM). The difference between two Datums is never constant, but
depends on position. This means that the difference term of WGS 84 and local
Datum, generally used in paper charts, is not generally valid with electronic sea
charts.
Paper charts
Datums used in paper charts has been traditionally national Datums for historical
reasons. Many paper charts do not have a marked Datum, compatibility with
electronic charts may be complicated. In some paper charts, the correction terms
instead of Datum are printed, for correction of the WGS 84 system satellite
locations. The correction terms are usable but only with the paper chart in
question.
The world has been divided into 24 different time zone. In the system can be
modified to output desired time and date by user.
Note! Selection of Time and Date must be done by service personnel . To
change Time and Date, see chapter Time and Date on page 47.
Sensor Failure
Failing sensors are indicated by empty display.
Position sensor such as GPS receiver fails to send position information into the
Conning Processor
Position sensor such as GPS receiver fails to send Waypoint information into the
Conning Processor
Propellers fail to send revolutions and pitch information into the Conning
Processor
Log or Dual axes log fail to send speed information into the Conning Processor
Echo sounder fails to send depth information into the Conning Processor
R.O.T. sensor fails to send rate of turn information into the Conning Processor
Gyro compass fails to send heading information into the Conning Processor
The ECAWATCH process has failed to restart stopped INS PROCESS. The ECAWATCH
dialog box has appeared with System Failure indication.
In the situation shown above you have to connect a service keyboard and a
service mouse to Conning processor to start task by yourself. For more
information, see chapter "How to start INS PROCESS" on page 74.
Introduction
The Conning System has been designed to collect and monitoring information
from installed sensors.
Signal Requirements
Standard interfaces
Gyro compass
One or two serial type of gyro compasses can be connected.
( $XXHDT...)
The second serial type of gyro compass could be so called DGPS gyro.
One stepper or synchro type of gyro compass with a gear ratio of 1:180 or
1:360 degree can be interfaced. ( In addition to one serial gyro compass
connected, if available )
Rate of Turn Gyro compass
ROT information can be calculated from the ordinary gyro system heading.
One serial type of ROT-gyro ( $XXROT...) or one with analogic voltage
output ( +/- 10 V) can be connected.
An alternative way to read the rate of turn information is the dual-axis speed
log, if that is equipped with a ROT-gyro.
Speed log
One pulse output pitot log ( 200 pulses/NM, only for longitudinal axis)
One serial data output dual axis speed log ( $XXVBW....).
Echo Sounder
One serial output type of echo sounder ( $XXDBT... )
Wind measuring device
One serial output type of wind sensor ( $XXMWV...)
Positioning equipment
Up to 2 positioning equipment can be connected using one of the following
communication protocols:
1. $XXGLL, $XXVTG and $XXZDA
2. $XXGGA, $XXVTG and $XXZDA
3. $XXPAT, $XXSHR,POS, $XXVTG and $XXZDA
4. Furuno CIF Format
5. Sercel Syledis Format
notes:
message $XXZDA should only be used with one of the
position equipment
only alternatives 2 and 3 has Differential-flag for DGPS
use.
only equipment, which has fixed datum (like WGS-84) in
their position message should be used.
Main propeller
One or two propellers having RPM and Pitch with analogic interface.
2-kohm potentiometers installed in all propellers.
Reference voltage to potentiometers (+/-12v) supplied from the navigation

Introduction
Installation parameters are used to define sensors which are connected to the
system and also define protocols and formats of messages received from the
sensors.
To open Installation parameters sheets, proceed as follows:
1. Connect service keyboard and mouse to the system.
2. Move cursor to upper left corner to Heading bar and press left mouse
button.
4. After modifications close dialog box using one button of listed below
There are three buttons in this dialog:
OK
This closes Installation parameters dialog and accept changes to parameters.
Cancel
Select Floppy (A) drive from Save in list box and press Save.
4. A following dialog box indicates you succeeded to save Installation
Parameters.
Press OK.
Select Floppy (A) drive from Look in list box and press Open.
4. A following dialog box indicates you succeeded to restore Installation
Parameters.
Press OK.
