CLASSROOM OBSERVATION TASK 2: The teachers position and body

language
Note the teacher`s position and movement. Draw a ground plan showing the
teachers movement during the lesson.

When and where does the teacher sit?

During the whole lesson, when the teacher is explaining the content, she
usually moves through the hall which is in front of the class. Then, when
students are working on the activities, she stays sitting in her seat doing
other stuff related to her work. Only when students call her for personal
questions, she stands and goes to the students seat.

When and where does the teacher stand?

When she is explaining the content, if she is not walking, she stands
between the whiteboard and her seat.

How near does the teacher approach the learners at different

parts of the lesson?

During the explanation stage of the lesson, she explains the content and
instructions directly to the students. When a student asks a specific
question about the activity, she walks to the student and explains the
doubt personally.

When does the teacher move around?

She does not usually move around, only when she goes to talk to a
specific student. As mentioned before, she only moves in front of the
room.

Does the teacher project to all the learners?

Yes, she does. I think that she is always looking at all of the students
when she speaks and ask questions to a different student every class.

Can the teacher be heard and seen clearly by all the learners?
As the room is not that big, the teacher can be clearly seen and heard. In
addition, her voice is loud and most of the students sit at the front.
Besides, when a student seems to be having problems to hear the
teacher, she speaks louder.

Does the teacher use gesture effectively?

 Not really. During the past lessons they were checking likes and dislikes,
and I think she could have used gesturing for explaining the activities
they were talking about and the subject liked them or not. Unfortunately,
she tends to go back to their L1 for translating the content.

Does the teacher make eye contact with individual learners?

Yes, she does. When she is explaining in front of the class, she looks ate
the students individually and is clear that she is making eye contact.
Moreover, when she speaks with a specific student for making a question
or answering one, she looks directly to them.
