140 CHARACTERS OR LESS: THE STORY OF LOUIS RIEL AND THE

RED RIVER RESISTANCE
Your assignment is to create a series of tweets that summarize the interactions between Louis
Riel, John A. Macdonald, and any other important characters during the events of the Red River
Resistances uprising in 1869 and the second uprising in 1885. You have to create 10 tweets that
help summarize and highlight key events and ideas that occurred during this period.
Remember to consider both Riels and Macdonalds perspective, but you are not limited to using
these two people only. (Gabriel Dumont, Thomas Scott, Poundmaker, the NWMP,)

Your tweets should relate to:

- The main source of conflict (The Canadian Government taking over Ruperts Land
without their consent)
- The lack of control the people of Red River would get as a territory, and their fears of
being pushed off their land
- The establishment of the Metis provisional government and the declaration (pg 278)
- The Manitoba Act and its compromise;
- Canadas response to the uprising and the Battle of Batoche
- The Manitoba School Act as a means to suppress and control the Metis and First Nations
people.
