Luxating Patella

Signalment

Age: 1 year 6 months

Breed: American Staffordshire

Sex: Male

Reproductive Status: Neutered

Species: Canine
History

Both Kobe and his sibling were both adopted from the clinic and have both
experienced luxating patellas genetic disorder
Limping on the left rear leg
Sometimes non weight bearing
Will pause during walking or exercise and not want to move
Last year the right rear leg was operated on for a luxating patella

My Role

Applying a Robert Jones Bandage
Discharging the patient
Dispensing and describing
medication to the client
Removing bandaging at the
recheck appointment
Client Discharge

Keep the pet quiet and confined for 5 days


Feed the normal amount of food the first night
Administer prescribed medication only
Leash walk the pet for 14 days
NO bathing or grooming
Keep bandaging clean and dry
Recheck appointment and bandage change in 7 days
Monitor for swelling, redness, discharge, vomiting, etc.
