LIGHT THE DARK

AVERAGE INCOME

In 2015, the average income in the U.S. was

$55,775; 14.3% of families made significantly
less than that amount, placing them in the
poverty category.

While 14.3% may not seem like a lot to some
people, it averages to be about, 41.3 million
families. This number increases each year,
and will continue to grow until something
drastic is done to end it.
STEREOTYPING

A common stereotype among those living in poverty

is that they have a drug or alcohol addiction; while
this is true in some cases, in most cases it isnt.
Behind the increasing interconnectedness promised
by globalization are global decisions, policies, and
practices. These are typically influenced, driven, or
formulated by the rich and powerful. These can be
leaders of rich countries or other global actors such
as multinational corporations, institutions, and
influential people. In the face of such enormous
external influence, the governments of poor nations
and their people are often powerless. (Shah)
Poverty comes to those in many different
ways, a main one being their geographic
location. Many Countries around the world do
not have access to clean water, healthy food
sources, education, and have very little, if
any, medical assistance.
Where Does the Money Go?

Donated Meals
If a family chose to donate even a eighth of
that $5,372 each year, 419 starving people
could be eating a hot meal, filled with all of the
recommended daily nutrition. We purchase
pre-cooked items in bulk and serve them hot
on the street. It only costs $1.60 per meal we
provide.(Cost per meal)
I understand that 419 may seem like a small
number in comparison to the 41.3 million
families experiencing poverty; however, if
each of the 74,247,040 families fitting into
this average income class donated an eighth
of their play money we could provide well
over 3 billion warm meals a year. This may not
end poverty in full, put it will definitely take a
large chunk out of it.
