Leaders of Tomorrow

Empowering the young Filipino for the Future

“The youth is the hope of the

Fatherland”- Jose Rizal,
Filipino Hero.

“You cannot build character

and courage by taking away a
man's initiative and
independence.” – Abraham
Lincoln, American President

Rationale: Inspired by the experience of the Southeast Asian Youth Leadership

Program sponsored by the U.S. State Department in Northern Illinois University last
April 2010, the Filipino team wanted to spread the inspiration and empower fellow
young people to become leaders of their own communities. The SEAYLP-Philippine
group, also known as Team Aguila, is composed of 6 students and 1 teacher, all from
Bacolod City, coming from 3 different schools, but bound with one common vision
and mission: to empower the youth through education.

The Leaders of Tomorrow Program is a leadership training program aimed to

empower young people to
become role models of
society. The end objective of
the LOT program is to inspire
less
fortunate/underprivileged
youths to reach their full
potentials by harnessing the
leader within in order to
salvage a better future not
only for themselves but for
their own communities.

The Leaders of Tomorrow

Program aims to showcase to
the young people various Role Models and how each of these historic and current
role models in their societies can become an inspiration to emulate and even exceed.
It is the objective of the LOT program to:
1. train high school students from public schools, hacienda schools and far-
flung schools who have the potentials to become future leaders not only
within their schools but also within their respective communities.
2. gather like-minded young people and enable them to meet equally
dedicated and passionate youths
3. motivate these identified participants to actualize their learning through
a small community or school project that will demonstrate their
leadership qualities.

Target Participants: For the first LOT program, we are targeting 20 3rd year high
school students coming from various public schools and other out-of-town schools
catering to the poor and less privileged. Qualifications must include: willingness to
participate, has shown potential leadership qualities in school, very satisfactory
academic performance and manifest strong commitment and dedication.
Program Module: The LOT program is proposed to be an overnight activity in
order to sustain the interest of the participants. Program module includes group
dynamics, talks from invited guests, group discussion and visioning, and at the latter
part action planning.

Theme: The LOT program’s

theme is ROLE MODELING.
Young people tend to
“idolize” other people,
identifying “hero” figures in
their lives from which they
can pattern their own habits
and way of thinking.
Presently, young people tend
to look up to celebrities and
pop icons whose popularity
can be universal. Young
people must also be made
aware that there are other
role models to follow such as
the heroes of old and even
current social figures whose
works have contributed to the progress of society. Thus, Filipino and American
historic and current personalities identified as heroes will be used as anchors for
discussion throughout the LOT program.
