Demonstration conducted by
David Hewitt, Corporate Business Manager, UNIT4

Technology Evaluation Centers (TEC) is pleased to announce that UNIT4s Agresso is now TEC Certified for online evaluation of
ERP solutions for services in the enterprise resource planning (ERP) Evaluation Center. The ERP Evaluation Center enables you to
compare and evaluate functionality based on TECs comprehensive model of ERP for services software. Data used in the
Evaluation Center are obtained from the vendors responses to TECs research questionnaire. Certification ensures that UNIT4
has demonstrated Agressos support for specific real-world business processes chosen by TEC analysts; and that TEC analysts
have analytically and comparatively reviewed research questionnaire data about Agresso against known benchmarks.

Benefits of Evaluating a TEC Certified Product
There are many benefits to evaluating a TEC Certified product. To potential clients of a software vendor, TEC certification
provides the following:

Reassurance: You can be assured that the data TEC provides about its certified products conform to a well-defined
standard of accuracy. When a vendors product is TEC Certified, it means that a trusted, independent third party has
seen the product up close.

Better communication with vendors: TEC certification helps ensure that vendors understand and respond accurately
to their clients RFIs. Certification with TEC analysts provides the opportunity to clarify any issues with the RFI criteria.
This ensures that the vendor is speaking the same language as its potential clientsand gives the clients an unam-
biguous specification of product functionality to inform their selections.

The certification seal is a valuable indicator for organizations that rely on the integrity of TECs research services for assistance
with their software selection projects. Organizations looking for a solution can be confident that theyre comparing the product
on an apples to apples basis with other, similar products.

Background and Analyst View
Agresso is UNIT4s enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution for people-centric businesses and organizations such as
professional services, education, and local government. Agresso has strong, competitive support across all major functional
areas of the TEC model of ERP solutions for services. These functional areas range from portfolio and project management to
back-office functionality including financials, human resources, and procurement management. The solution supports the entire
end-to-end services organization project lifecycle as diagrammed here.

UNIT4 is a business software vendor headquartered in the Netherlands with operations throughout North America, Europe, and
Asia Pacific. Founded in 1980, the company is now among the top ten mid-market ERP vendors worldwide, and offers four
primary business solution lines: ERP, best of breed financial software (both Coda Financials and FinancialForce), plus turnkey
UNIT4 Business Analytic Apps. Its customer base is also impressivethe group has more than 6,000 clients with over 2 million
users, and there have been more than 10,000 global deployments of UNIT4s software applications.

UNIT4 has a strong international presence, with 33 offices in 24 countries. The top three market segments served are
government, professional service, and not for profit. The company has seen consistent revenue and earnings growth over the
last three years, reporting $620M USD in revenue in 2012. It targets the following five industries: local government, central
government, higher education, professional services, and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). Agressos customer base has
strong representation in public services, where it is a market leader in Scandinavia and holds a leadership or top 3 ranking in
three European countries as well. It also has strong representation in the commercial services industry.

Agresso ERP is designed from the ground up for organizations that UNIT4 calls BLINCBusinesses Living IN Change. The
solution is built on top of the Vita architecture, which unifies the systems data, processes, and information delivery. A change
made in one area is immediately and without redundancy available across the entire system landscape via Vita architecture.
This architecture enables companies to affect system changes to react to varied business changes (e.g., to reorganization,
mergers and acquisitions, compliance and regulatory changes, financial changes, and other business changes) quickly, efficiently,
and cost effectively.

A major part of Agressos value proposition to organizations is in the products post-implementation agility. The inability of an
organization to effectively respond to change can impact the company in any number of ways, including lost market share,
delayed product launch, a drop in customer satisfaction, fines for non-compliance, decreased operational efficiency, and,
ultimately, a drop in the companys stock price. The Agresso system was designed to allow organizations to respond to business
change challenges with speed and agility. As most organizations know, you know that things are going to change, you just dont
know what the change will be or when its going to happen. Changes to a business information and processes within Agresso
can be affected without the need for specialized IT personnel or lengthy development/configuration cycles.

The Agresso ERP solution is available both on premises and via a UNIT4 cloud deployment option, including both private and
multitenant cloud models. UNIT4 ERP cloud deployments are uniquely architected with their own individual databases,
providing a number of security, portability, version control, and accident forgiveness features that currently do not exist
elsewhere in the cloud market.

Product Highlights
Agresso has all the features we have come to expect in a modern ERP solution, and a unique value proposition with its easy-to-
change Vita architectural components. The system has a very user-friendly look and feel. It also has alerting, workflow, and an
integrated reporting solutionthe Agresso Report Creator (ARC). However, Agresso ERP kicks it up a notch in a number of areas,
including the solutions flexi-forms, dynamic zoom, and in particular the user-accessible workflow capabilities.

Based on four main principles, here are the product highlights for Agresso:

Ease of Use
Layout: The Agresso user interface has a look and feel similar to that of Microsoft Outlook. This makes it easy for new
users familiar with the Microsoft interface to navigate the system. The starting page can be tailored to an individual
role or user. The system menu tree, available at the top, left of the screen, is presented as a set of folders grouped by
job function. The lower section of the left side of the screen is set up to provide quick access to functions such as My
Tasks, Menu Search, Reports or My Employment. The right side of the screen displays the functional module to
the user. The interface also has key operations like Save, Open, and Help available to the user in the style of the
Microsoft ribbon. These components of the interface can be moved out of or into view while using the system.
Task performance: Agresso has typeahead search functionality available across the system, that is, the system will
automatically suggest text to use when conducting a search. Agresso allows a user to search by letter, number, code,
or description.

Integration capabilities: Agresso integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Office and other business productivity tools. An
e-mail notification can be created based on any business event in the system. Data from screens can be downloaded
to a Microsoft Excel worksheet. Notes and documents can be attached to data records across the system. As a Web-
based application, Agresso also supports integration with Web services and complies with Web service standards such
as Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP).

Technology Evaluation Centers 7

Workflow Design
Information retrieval: Agresso allows users to easily store additional information against a system attribute using
what are termed flexi-forms and flexi-fields. These are user-defined forms and fields that can be set up to hold
additional information. These are then easily brought into reports and inquiries.
Alerts and notifications: Agresso has an integrated and easy-to-use workflow engine. Alerts and notifications can be
based on any business event in the system. For example, an alert can be created to notify a project portfolio manager
when a new project has been submitted for bid. Or a user can set up a private alert to be notified of an upcoming
event or occasion, such as a meeting or an employee's birthday. Of course, not only are simple workflows supported,
but complicated workflows can be designed with the graphical workflow editor. The system also maintains a history of
the changes to the workflows. An example workflow screen is shown here.

Reporting capabilities: Agresso ships with an integrated reporting tool called the Agresso Report Creator (ARC). The
system supports operational and ad hoc reporting requirements. Operation reports can be scheduled and distributed
from user-accessible online tools. Ad hoc reporting capabilities allow the user to create a wide variety of outputs
including information pages, columnar data pages, and pie, bar, and scatter graphs.

Technology Evaluation Centers 8

Ease of Implementation
DBMS platforms: Agresso is supported on Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Databases.
Web Servers: Agresso is supported on Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS).
Web Browsers: Agresso supports all the major browsers for its deployment, including Safari, Internet Explorer,
Chrome, and Firefox.
Flexibility: In addition to offering a flexible solution to its customers, UNIT4 is also flexible when it comes to a
companys deployment options. A company can chose to deploy the solution on-premises then move to a cloud-based
solution hosted by UNIT4 (or vice versa), without suffering a major change to licensing costs.

Innovation
New features: In December 2012, UNIT4 announced that it will deliver a new user interface to its applications,
starting with Agresso. The changes are to be delivered in 2013. The changes are being designed to further enhance
the value proposition offered by UNIT4. For more information on the changes, refer to the TEC report titled UNIT4
Gearing Up for Game Changers in 2013.
Pricing: UNIT4 does not distribute its products via resellers or agents; all contract negotiations, deals, and
implementations are performed solely by the vendor. Clients can select from the wide choice of licensing and payment
options available, from on-premises to cloud, and from traditional licensing to subscription mode.

Product Analysis
The following high-level graphs identify this products functional focus and competitive strengths. All data may be reviewed in
depth, using the TEC Advisor decision support system in TECs public Evaluation Centers.

The TEC Focus IndicatorTM

This TEC Focus Indicator shows you which types of functionality are most likely to differentiate UNIT4 Agresso from other
products in the ERP for services software space. It includes three zones indicating the products functional focus: the Dominant
Zone, Competitive Zone, and Minimal Support Zone. TECs model of ERP for services systems is designed with a comprehensive
breadth; generally vendors will deliver a common base of functionality. While its necessary to know whether a product
supports a base of common functionality, its also very helpful to understand how a product really differs from the crowd.

The rankings in this Focus Indicator represent neither the quality of the product nor an absolute quantity of supported
functionality. Rather, the rankings show support relative to the quantity of functionality supported, on average, by software
products in this market space. The functional focus axes indicate the modules of a typical ERP for services product. Red dots that
are near the center of the functional focus axes reveal where Agresso is more likely to differentiate itself through breadth of
functionality. If your needs tend toward the type of functionality for which the red dots are located closer to the center of the
Focus Indicator, this product will be a strong competitor for what you need.

TEC Focus Indicator for Agresso

Technology Evaluation Centers 10

Dominant Zone
Agresso has five modules located in the Dominant Zone: Portfolio and Project Management; Resource Planning and Scheduling;
Time and Expense Management; Budgeting, Costing, and Billing; and Back-office Functionality.

As dominant modules make up the bulk of Agresso's functionality offerings, if you require more than the average breadth of
functionality from these modules, this product will stand a much better-than-average chance of satisfying your requirements.

Competitive Zone
Agresso has three modules located in the Competitive Zone: Opportunity, Contact, and Contract Management; Knowledge
Management, Collaboration, and Analysis; and Third-party Integration. Agresso is competitive with most products in the ERP for
services market in these core areas, and Agresso receives a higher rating score than average for the area of Third-party
Integration.

Having all modules falling in the Dominant or Competitive zones indicates that the Agresso has competitive functionality in all
areas of TECs ERP for Services model.

Minimal Support Zone

Agresso has no modules located in the Minimal Support Zone.

Technology Evaluation Centers 11

Understanding the TEC Focus Indicator Zones
TEC defines an average solution using data about real software products available on the market. We assess the capabilities of
the software and assign numeric ratings representing various levels of support in our models of enterprise software. Depending
on the model, we use anywhere from a thousand to several thousand criteria to determine average scores. These models and
product scores may be accessed through our publicly available Evaluation Centers.

We calculate what an average solution would look like based on the features and functions about which software vendors have
provided us with recent information. We then normalize the scores of this solution as the circle labeled Industry Average
bisecting the TEC Focus Indicator graph. We also define boundaries on the high and low ends of the average, which are the
demarcation points for passing into Dominant or Minimal Support zones. Next, we determine the quantity of functionality
supported by the product for each module in our model. We assume that all criteria are equally important. In a real-world
situation, of course, you would give a greater priority to criteria that are more important for your needs. However, for the sake
of the TEC Focus Indicator analysis, we want to draw conclusions about the products focus independently of any priorities.

The Industry Average forms the benchmark from which we calculate the difference in functionality offered by the product. The
difference between the product score and the Industry Average is plotted as a positive or negative distance from the Industry
Average line. For example, if the product offers a greater quantity of support than average for a particular module, the red dot
will be located toward the inner focus of the graph. Note that a product is not good or bad just because it has more or less
functionality than other products. To understand whether it will do what you need it to do, at a price within your budget, you
must evaluate the product in depth.

The Zones

The area of functional focus within the green Dominant Zone indicates where a product has a much greater level of support for
functionality than the average solution in this market space. Dominant modules are likely to be competitive differentiators.

The area of functional focus falling within the pale Competitive Zone indicates where the product has a level of support for
functionality that is generally on par with what you can find from other solutions on the market. The functionality provided by
the vendor likely remains a core part of the products focus. In some cases such a module may be considered a commodity
within the market: many vendors offer the majority of the functionality, which makes it difficult to differentiate a product based
on breadth of that functionality alone.

In other cases, a vendor may intend its product to compete on a level that satisfies most customers requirements, with a
market focus requiring that it differentiate itself through other modules or through the qualitative manner in which it provides
its functionality.

The Competitive Zone is bisected by the Industry Average circle, which shows the quantity of functionality supported, on
average, by software products in this market space.

The red Minimal Support Zone indicates where the product supports fewer features and functions than the average solution in
the market. Modules listed in this zone are unlikely to be as important to the vendors target clientele as the other modules. If a
product has rankings in this zone, it generally offers the bare essentials and isnt focused on competing for clients that highly
prioritize this functionality.

Even if a product has modules in the Minimal Support zone, it may still be entirely capable of satisfying your requirements,
particularly if the average solution on the market offers more functionality than you require.

In all cases, its likely that you will need to review the product in more depth to determine whether the functionality it provides
in any zone is applicable or sufficient for your requirements.

Functionality Benchmarks
The following functionality benchmark graphs represent the quantity of support by Agresso for the functionality within each
module identified in the TEC Focus Indicator, on a scale of 0 to 100 points. The closer the plotted value is to 100 (toward the
outside in spider graphs; toward the top in bar charts), the more functionality Agresso supports. For the sake of comparison,
you can see an average of what competitor solutions offer by referring to the dashed orange line.

Portfolio and Project Management

Project portfolio management organizes a series of projects into a single portfolio consisting of reports that capture project
objectives, costs, timelines, accomplishments, resources, risks, and other critical factors. Executives can regularly review entire
portfolios, spread resources appropriately, and adjust projects to produce the highest departmental returns. As its name
implies, project portfolio management groups projects so that they can be managed, the same way an investor would manage
stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.

Criteria Legend No. of

Criteria
1 Portfolio Management 49
2 Project Management 199
3 Process Management 25
4 Workflow Management 16
5 Risk Management 17
6 Earned Value Management 20

Agresso has better than average support in all six functional areas in the Portfolio and Project Management module. Overall in
this module, Agresso scores 87.65 points while the average competitor solution scores 64.95 points. In the areas of portfolio
management, earned value management, and the workflow capabilities required to manage projects and portfolios, Agresso
scores greater than 95 points.

With respect to project management, Agresso has strong functional support for managing workplans, tasks, change, quality, and
the metrics associated with these. Agresso slips only slightly in this area by not fully supporting functional criteria around issue,
scope, and change management, though much of this functionality can be supported through modifications. Similarly, a number
of process management functional criteria are not directly supported by Agresso.

Technology Evaluation Centers 13

Resource Planning and Scheduling

Resource planning and scheduling comprises the efficient and effective deployment of an organizations resources when they
are needed. Such resources may include financial resources, inventory, human skills, production resources, or information
technology.

Criteria Legend No. of

Criteria
1 Resource Allocation 35
2 Multiple User
10
Management
3 Contacts 3
4 User Preferences 12

Agresso scores an impressive 98.71 points overall out of a possible 100 in the Resource Planning and Scheduling module. In
comparison, the overall score of average solutions in the marketspace is 74.22 points, almost 25 points lower. The Agresso
solution misses a perfect score in all areas of this module because of only a few criteria, which are planned to be supported in a
future release. Agresso is obviously well ahead of the competition in helping to manage resource allocation and associated
complexities for services organizations.

Technology Evaluation Centers 14

Opportunity, Contact, and Contract Management

Opportunity management systems (OMS) store sales opportunities and related information. Each sales lead can be tracked with
information such as source, type, worth, status, likelihood of closure, etc. An OMS can also perform other related tasks, such as
prioritizing sales calls and generating analyses that assist the fine-tuning of marketing strategies. Contract management systems
provide tools to create and edit contracts, as well as to monitor and manage the provision of service in line with the agreed-
upon terms and conditions. Contact management systems enable organizations to easily store and find contact information such
as names, addresses, and telephone numbers. Sophisticated contact managers provide reporting functions and allow several
people in a workgroup to access the same database of contacts. Some also provide calendar functions, which blurs the line
between contact managers and personal information managers (PIMs).

Criteria Legend No. of Criteria

Customer Service and
1 57
Support
2 Sales Management 138
Contract Management
3 19

Account and Contact
4 45
Management

In the area of contract management and creation, Agresso scores a perfect 100 points, about 30 points above the average
solution. However, as the above graph indicates, the current release of the Agresso solution does not have strong support for
organizations requiring opportunity management capabilities including sales management and account and contact
management. What the graph does not reveal is that Agresso plans to support much of this currently unsupported functionality
in a future release.

Technology Evaluation Centers 15

Time and Expense Management

Time management refers to the development of processes and tools that increase efficiency and productivity. Time
management tools include electronic time sheets that capture both work- and nonwork-related activities, thus allowing
organizations to capture and track data for payroll and project-related activities. Expense management refers to tools that
streamline and automate the submission and approval of multiple expenses and expense types, such as travel, lodging, car
rentals, meals, etc.

Criteria Legend No. of Criteria

1 Time Management 58
2 Expense Management 64

Agresso scores 97.16 points while the score of the average solution is 82.69 points in the Time and Expense module. The time
management criteria in TEC's ERP for services model include criteria for time sheet data capture and the approval and
monitoring of time sheets. The expense management criteria include criteria for expense data capture, reimbursements and
payments, workflows and approvals, and expense reporting and compliance. In expense management, Agresso reveals its strong
workflow and approval capabilities by again scoring 100 points in these sub-categories.

Technology Evaluation Centers 16

Budgeting, Costing, and Billing

A financial management system as part of a professional services automation (PSA) solution automates the tracking and
submission of project budgets, costs, and assets. In addition, it provides the capability to track multiple billable details and
generate customized invoices.

Criteria Legend No. of Criteria

Budgeting and
1 16
Transactions
2 Project Billing 22
3 Invoice Generation 5
4 Project Costing 27
5 Resource Sharing 4

Agresso scores very highly in the Budgeting, Costing, and Billing module, bringing it into the dominant zone in the TEC focus
indicator for the module (see the indicator on page 10). The system scores 100 points in the budgeting, invoice generation, and
resource sharing areas, indicating that it fully supports all the functional criteria in these areas. Agresso also scores high marks
in the project billing and project costing areas, above the 80 points mark and above the average competitor solution in the
space.

Technology Evaluation Centers 17

Knowledge Management, Collaboration, and Analysis

A major focus of knowledge management is to identify and gather content from documents, reports, and other sources and to
be able to search that content for meaningful relationships. Collaboration and analysis capabilities are also vital to services
organizations.

Criteria Legend No. of Criteria

1 Business Intelligence
124
and Reporting
2 Documents and Records
123
Management
3 Collaboration 30

Agresso scores 58.36 points overall with respect to Knowledge Management, slightly below the score of the average competitor
solution in this module in the TEC ERP for Services model, 63.58 points. In the Business Intelligence and Reporting area, Agresso
scores 69.13; part of the reason for the lower rating here is that the solution does not fully support some Gantt charting
capabilities. In the Document and Records Management area, Agresso scores are about ten points above the average solution
on the marketplace. In the Collaboration sub-module, Agresso scores strongly in e-mail collaboration, but the score is lower
than the average solution because of the lack of support for criteria such as idea management, chat, discussion, and message
boards.

Technology Evaluation Centers 18

Third-party Integration

Numerous best-of-breed professional services automation (PSA) and project portfolio management (PPM) solutions integrate
with third-party project management systems, customer relationship management (CRM), and back-office systems to provide
complete PSA functionality for organizations.

Criteria Legend No. of Criteria

1 Project Management Applications 12
2 Integration with Other Applications 16

Although Agresso is a well-rounded solution in its own right, it can be integrated with third-party solutions including project
management, payroll, or other application solutions. Agresso scores a total of 86.88 points overall with respect to third-party
integration while the average solution scores 80.15 points. The product provides for solid integration with Microsoft Project. A
user is also able to integrate with external payroll processing, debit, credit, or other expense management systems.

Technology Evaluation Centers 19

Back-office Functionality

Back-office functionality refers to the components of the solution which do not interact directly with the customer. It provides
the functionality for internal operations, such as financials, human resources, and procurement.

Criteria Legend No. of Criteria

1 Financials 961
2 Human Resources 447
Procurement
3 268
Management

Agresso shows that it is a mature ERP solution with solid support for all three back-office functional submodules in TECs ERP for
services model. Agresso scores 91.54 points in back-office functionality while the average score is 76.17 points.

The Financials submodule includes general ledger capabilities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and
budgeting. The Human Resources submodule includes personnel management, benefits, payroll, workforce management, and
training. Procurement Management includes supplier profiles and ratings, purchase order management, and vendor contracts
and agreements.

Agresso scores 97, 88, and 89 points for financials, human resources, and procurement management, respectively. The solution
score dips slightly in the human resources area owing to the lack of support for certain workforce management functionality.
The lower procurement management scores are owing to the need to modify the solution to meet repeat procurement
requirements.

Technology Evaluation Centers 20

Analyst Summary
Agresso is a homogeneous integrated suite of solutions built for project-based services organizations living in an environment of
constant change. The system has highly competitive support in all the key functional areas enumerated in TECs ERP for services
model, indicating that it is able to match or exceed what the competition can offer in the pre-implementation phases of an ERP
selection effort.

The Agresso system is designed with the unique Vita architecture as a foundation, allowing organizations to react to business
changes and meet the post-implementation challenges that often face an organization after installing an ERP system.

Layered on top of the Vita architecture are a number of well-designed interface features, including a Microsoft Outlook look and
feel, typeahead search functionality, integrated alerts, and a rich, tightly integrated reporting solution. The company promises
exciting new changes to the user interface including better usability and social collaboration capabilities. UNIT4 plans to release
these changes during the summer of 2013.

Agresso does not support some specific functionalities listed in the TEC model of ERP for services out of the box, including
functionalities in areas such as scope management, risk management, and change management. However, these types of
functionalities are most commonly used in project management offices that are following the standards defined by the Project
Management Institute, and although these functional requirements may be important to some organizations, they are not
generally required by all organizations in the services industry.

UNIT4 takes a solid stance that it is dedicated to serving the services industries with its Agresso solution. Its dedication is
demonstrated in a number of functional areas as reviewed in this report. But UNIT4 also stands out in how it a) does not pursue
customers that are outside the company's market focus, and b) will not compete for the business of a company that does not
see itself as a dynamic, changing organization. In other words, UNIT4 has stayed true to its market focus and does not dilute its
offerings with tacked-on functionality that is not germane to its core market focus.
