THE ETHICS OF HUMAN CLONING

Based on the scientific journal from The Ethics of Human

Cloning, human cloning is The starvation and implantation from
particular non-sexual cells of one organisms DNA into an
enucleated egg, egg without its DNA nucleus. After that, the
enucleated egg will be treated with chemical or electrical until it is
grow into second organism which is contained the same genetic
code with the first organism. (McGee, 2011)
The general meaning of cloning is closer to replication rather
than reproduction. Replication of genetic code is commonly happens
in plant which make this kind of reproduction artificially applied in
human make it become a debatable. Replication in human only
happens in the case of twinning which is natural reproduction. On
one side, human cloning can be beneficial for infertile person thus
that person will have a descendant carrying his genetic code. On the
other hand, no one knows about the cloning future and will the
society able to accept it. The talks about cloning are not only occur
because the clone itself but also come from the process itself which
is artificial. Artificial process always started with different kinds of
error in order to find the best way to do human cloning. Errors could
be resulting in the deaths of embryos in the form of miscarriages,
abortions, and deformed descendants.
The future of the clone is still questionable. For example, if the
progenitors want to make clones in order to have new person with
exactly the same physical characteristic with them but the clones
turn out do not have the exact physical characteristic with their
progenitors, what will happen to them? Imagine when the clones
have distinct personality from their progenitors, will the progenitors
force in teaching them to have the same personality? It can be
another kind of violating human right because the clone will be
under pressure. Can we say that progenitors will become suitable
parents for their clones just because both of them share the same
genetic? The relative of the progenitors will also questioning about
their relationship with the clone.
Moreover, human cloning does not have any protection from
the law because the law could not protect not-yet-exist organisms.
In addition, if the law accept and protect artificial reproduction in the
future, the natural reproduction will be in dangers due to the
possibility of replacing a natural one with the artificial. Within the
acceptance of human cloning, the scientist will become more
confidence to find new reproduction technology. It means that the
scientist will be the one who create human. With such power,
human will be tested for their morality and wisdom. In conclusion,
whether human cloning can be accepted in the society or not is
depend on how the scientist will present human cloning in a
common way so that the society will understand the positive
purposes of human cloning such as reproductive medicine for
infertility.
In my point of view, human cloning is a breakthrough in the
area of medical. However, human cloning has negative impact to
society. The author mentions about infertility can be treat with
human cloning. Nonetheless, infertility could not be cured with
human cloning. It will only help them to have a descendant without
any guarantees that the clone will survives until it is fully grown up.
No one can be sure with the life expectancy of a clone. Furthermore,
there are no regulations about the future of human cloning, whether
they can be treated as other children or they will be alienated in the
society.
The author also mentions that clone right to an open future
can get violated. I agree with that statement because the clone will
get confused whether they want to be like their progenitors or
different from them, after all they have the same genetic code with
their parent so that their personality have to be the same with
their parent. They have the right to choose their own future same
as any other people in the world.
The process of human cloning makes my opinion against it
getting stronger. The process involves miscarriages and abortion.
For me, both of them have the same meaning with murder. Even if
the clone is a nonexistent life, it is already have a life. Deformed
births are inevitable in human cloning due to the clinical failures.
What happen to the clone with deformed birth? Will the progenitors
want to take care them or will it be killed?
