On December 1, 2016, the inaugural group of young men from Pennsauken High
School were inducted into the Pennsauken Achievement Committee also known
as the PAC Scholars. The PAC Scholar program is a peer to peer mentoring pro-
gram to promote good behavior and academic success. Under the direction of
Mrs. Zino, Mrs. Gillespie, Mr. Byrd, Ms. Wright, Mr. Munford, and Ms. Turner,
junior and senior PAC Scholars interviewed potential freshmen and sophomores
for participation in this new program in October. During the induction ceremo-
ny, Dr. Theodore Johnson spoke to the students about the importance of goal
setting and asking for assistance. Dr. Johnson is a retired superintendent who
lives in Pennsauken. He has been mentoring kids for three decades. During the
induction ceremony, 15 upperclassmen were partnered with 17 underclassmen
and will serve as mentors in their pursuit of personal and academic excellence.
For their service project, the PAC Scholars visit Fine School throughout the year
to assist English as a second language students. The entire PHS community is
excited about the possibilities and potential of the PAC Scholars and look for-
ward to celebrating their future successes.
Holidays in Pennsauken would not seem complete without
the Pennsauken choral departments annual winter concert, and it was gratifying
to see that it is still one of the best choral departments in South Jersey perform
holiday songs. On December 13th, excited families and students attended the an-
nual Holiday Choral Concert and witnessed the amazing vocalists at the high
school. Choir director Ms. Brown always seems to draw the best out of her stu-
dents.
Not only was the program acoustically pleasing to the members of the
community in attendance, the members of the choir department visually amazed
them with the performances. With performances from the Double Dozen, who
sang holiday favorites of White Christmas, Frosty the Snowman and the First No-
el. While the Concert Choir performed Java Jove, Sing Noel, Noel, and Hine Ma
Tov. However, Bobbi Sue Goodwin stole the show with her solo performance sing-
ing The Voice.
The evening concert was a pleasure to all in attendance as it showcased the
amazing talented students at Pennsauken High School.
