Research Methods Project

In abortion, the topic has been greatly debated whether it is moral to let it be legal or to
find the perspective of death to someone who has not yet experienced life to be a factor in
determining the morality of the issue to be illegal. I created a survey to find opinions of female
and male sample groups as well as taking into consideration their religion and other factors.
People in the sample group will be students in high school ranging from juniors to seniors. The
method of data collection will be through a link sent to them from survey monkey with 9
questions to answer online. All the females in the survey said they were planing on having kids
while the male responding more times maybe than yes, and none said no. Out of all the females,
the decision was very split in 4 to 5, with 5 saying they believe abortion should be legal in most
cases and 4 saying it should be illegal in all cases. The girls in this study who said it should be
illegal in all cases were planing on having kids, were catholic and christian and were seniors. The
girls in this study who said it should be illegal in all cases were planing on having kids, most
were juniors and were also catholic and christian. The majority of men who said they maybe
might have kids agreed for abortion to be legal in most cases with only one of them being atheist
and the rest being christian and catholic, most of them were also seniors. For men who said they
do plan on having kids (which were only three) had three different opinions with abortion, with
two seniors saying they believe it should be legal in all cases and the other said it should be
illegal in all cases, finally the third junior said it should be illegal in most cases. In the end I can
conclude that juniors had in mind a more flexible opinion whether it was a woman or a man who
responded, they always did with in most cases and not in all cases by which most seniors
responded with. Their religion did not seem to have much of an influence on their personal
opinion on this survey which to me seemed like was because this was anonymous with no name,
they could disagree openly to abortion in terms of what religion they believe in because of their
own morality they have come to learn. Another question I added was In a single fertilized cell,
the fetus has its own life principal and genetic makeup, does this justify not having an abortion in
any possible situation? - I added this question to see if the perspective that the process to
creating life has already begun affects peoples opinion on abortion, even though life might not
be experienced yet, nor does the brain or other organs form completely and the fetus doesn't have
memory either. I wanted to also see if the morality of people changed and made them believe if
the process of life has begun, does that justify not having the abortion because you would be
stopping that process and the creation of life within that fetus. But this did not make a difference
because people who said their opinion of in all cases did not change and still held their belief
strongly, whereas people who had a in most cases perspective also took it as an exception and
stayed with their belief. Finally I also added a question which was approximately how long did
it take you to complete this survey? and everyone who had an absolute belief in pro-abortion or
against it, got their times wrong estimating too much or too little, with some people taking up to
12 minutes on the survey and estimating it to take 1 with the exception of one female who
accurately said she took approximately 30 seconds. Through this I can conclude that people who
were taking the survey did not have a good perception of time passed who answered their beliefs
as in all cases. Whereas people who were taking the survey and thought about the question and
concluded there would be some exceptions and choose in most cases as an option had accurate
representations of their time to almost be the exact minute they ended and thus had more thought
and consciousness put into what is better for everyone or wanted to express their own opinion
accurately.
