Dicen que no hay mal que por bien no venga, y el Huracn Katrina (2005) podra ser un buen ejemplo. Aunque es complicado sacar algo positivo
de un cicln tropical -con vientos de hasta 280km/h- que se llev la vida de ms de 1.800 personas en Estados Unidos y arras ms de 5.000
viviendas, lo cierto es que adems fue el detonante para la creacin de varias iniciativas de reconstruccin, entre ellas la Fundacin Make It Right.

Apadrinada por el actor Brad Pitt (http://www.arq.com.mx/tag/Brad+Pitt), la fundacin de ayuda a los damnicados de Katrina ha construido ms de 150
viviendas sostenibles diseadas por una veintena de arquitectos de renombre internacional como Shigeru Ban (http://www.arq.com.mx/tag/Shigeru+Ban),
Frank Gehry (http://www.arq.com.mx/tag/Frank+Gehry), Kieran Timberlake (http://www.arq.com.mx/tag/Kieran+Timberlake),
(http://www.arq.com.mx/tag/Hitoshi+Abe)Hitoshi Abe (http://www.arq.com.mx/tag/Hitoshi+Abe) y Morphosis (http://www.arq.com.mx/tag/Morphosis),
entre otros. Y, adems de ayudar a los ms necesitados, han decidido compartir abiertamente su conocimiento.

Despus de 10 aos, el director de 'Make It Right', Tom Darden, ha anunciado que los planos que han estado usando para estas viviendas se han abierto al
pblico y estn disponibles de manera gratuita.

Queremos compartir nuestro conocimientos, los materiales que usamos, los mtodos de construccin, lecciones aprendidas, los ltimos descubrimientos
hechos y los datos, explican desde la fundacin.

Eso s, estas casas no son especialmente baratas de construir: el precio medio del metro cuadrado se sita en torno a los 960 euros. Y aunque la construccin
no es una ganga, la alta eciencia energtica (con certicado LEED Platinum) prometen compensar la inversin inicial.
