CIRCULAR
Sub.: Summer 2016-17 semester - Course Registration and Slot Timetable
Ref.: Circular VIT/Acad/2017/Summer/117 dt. 10-03-2017 on Summer Academic Calendar

Summer 2016-17 Semester will be offered to students of all programmes of the University as per the
Academic Calendar circulated vide the communication referred above. The norms for registration is
given in this document. The Summer 2016-17 semester slot timetable is given in the Annexure.
1. The Summer semester commences on 25th May 2017 (Thursday).
2. A link for the student Wish list option for Summer courses will be available on 20th and 21st March
2017. However the courses will be offered based on the availability of the faculty and also other
related resources.
3. Summer course registration link will be opened on 15th and 16th May 2017.
4. Fresh registrations (including Grade Improvement, Minor, Honours and Audit) are not permitted
(for both CAL and non-CAL students) during Summer semester. However, 5 year Integrated
M.Tech (Software Engineering) students and also the final year students of all programmes are
permitted to register for two fresh (first time) courses. This is to give an additional option to
complete the minimal credit requirement for graduation. Maximum of four courses (re-
registration / fresh) can be registered / re-registered during the summer semester.
5. Courses with F and Y (in CAL) grades will be permitted for Re-registration. Final year student
can re-register for the courses that already has an N or W grade. However, such re-registrations
will be counted under Fresh registrations.
6. Students under CAL can re-register a component of a course that they have failed to clear in their
earlier registration. Re-registration of either one or more components of a course will be counted
as one registration.
7. For clearing the courses with backlogs, the non-CAL student should choose only one of the
following options: (a) FAT as Arrear, (b) Regular Arrear, (c) Summer Semester.
8. All courses, including that of M.Tech. programmes, will be offered under CBL mode only. Project
only courses will not be offered except Innovation projects (INV201, INV202, INV501). Students
registering INV projects are not permitted to Register or Re-register any other courses during the
Summer (since INV projects need full time dedication).
9. The Course-slot-faculty-venue link will be available for the Schools to upload relevant details
during the period 23rd March 2017 to 6th May 2017.
10. No Add/Drop option is available during Summer semester. However, Course Withdrawal option
will be made available after CAT I and the exact dates for the same will be informed later.
11. M.Tech. students admitted during AY 2016-17 also should register for their Fall 2017-18 semester
(Fast track) courses using the same link available for the Summer 2016-17 semester registration.
Senior M.Tech. students (AY 2016-2017 admitted batch) are permitted to Re-register their eligible
arrear courses in their free slots, subject to a maximum of four registrations including that of their
Fall fast track semester courses.

12. Re-registration fee of Rs. 6,000 per course need to paid for all the re-registered courses. The last
date for payment will be 19th May 2017 (Friday). Registered but not paid course registrations will
be removed on 23th May 2017. The student should ensure that the payment is complete and under
no circumstances the dates for the fee payment will be extended.
13. A faculty will be permitted to take a maximum of 2 courses (theory/ lab) only. In case of embedded
laboratory courses, the same faculty handling the theory will handle the laboratory component as
well. Eligible faculty handling summer courses (including that of regular M.Tech. fresh courses)
will be remunerated as per the norms. Faculty who are not eligible for the Summer vacation should
take two Theory courses as part of their Summer semester workload (not remunerated).
14. The slots time table for the Summer Semester and the important dates are given in the Annexure.
