Name of Experiment
Resister color code

;Name

Introduction
The electronic color code is used to indicate the values
or ratings of electronic components, usually for resistors,
but also forcapacitors, inductors, diodes and others. A
separate code, the 25-pair color code, is used to identify
.wires in some telecommunicationscables
And The resistance value for a resistor is generally
indicated through the use of a 4 (or 3, or 5) band color
code. For a typical four-band code, the first two bands tell
you the first two digits of the resistance, the third band tells
you how many zeros to add, and the fourth band tells you
the tolerance. For a five-band color code, the first three
bands tell you the first three digits of the resistance, the
fourth band tells you how many zeros to add, and the fifth
.band tells you the tolerance

Objective
To lean the resister colour code, and become familiar with
the measurement of resistance values using a digital
.multimeter (DMM)

Equipment

Discussion
Q1: what is a largest deviation in table
?1.3
The value of 220k is a largest deviation

Q2: do the measure value of table 3.1 represent

.the exact values of the resister tested ? mention it

Q3: Is there any difference between the wet and dry

?hand's resistance measurement

.why? Mention it

/Ans
Let us imagine that you touched a metal surface
,that has an electrical fault with a dry finger
The dry finger has an high resistance.
Therefore, only a small amount of current
will flow from the metal surface to inside the
.body

Now imagine that you touched the same metal surface, but
.this time it was wet with saline or some other fluid
Generally, liquids have a much lower resistance to current
flow than dry skin. Therefore, your wet finger allows a much
larger amount of current to flow through you, giving you a big
.shock

So, wet skin, because it has a low resistance, makes you have
.a higher risk of harmful electrical shock

Q4: Is it possible to measure the value of any

resistor connected with power supply in
?a circuit by Ohmmeter? why

Ans/ No, because The voltage

impressed across the resistor by the
power supplied will interfere with
.the ohmmeters measurement

Q5: From procedure (5), if you accidently

touch (240V) mains how much current will
?flow through your body
/Ans
dry hand Rd=1.2 m

wet hand Rw=0.78 m

Applying ohm's law
Current for dry hand= V/Rd > 240/1.2 =
200 mA
Current for wet hand= V/Rw> 240/0.78=
307.7 mA

Q6: What are the colors for (1 )

?resistor
Ans/ the colors are (black , brown ,
black)

Q7: What is the highest and lowest

resistance can be exist? what do we call
the circuit
?for both cases
Ans/Every material has Resistance. Copper
has a low resistance and wood has a high
resistance. For example, a metre of copper
has a resistance of only 1 Ohm but a metre of
,wood has a resistance of 10000000 ohm
low resistance circuit called ( closed
circuit)
high resistance circuit called (open
circuit)
