Tough Time Ahead

A widespread problem that plagues our nation is bullying. Bullying has been the case to

many issues that happens inside our borders and across the whole world. It has caused massive

emotional and psychological problems for many individuals. Not only does bullying affect

victims in the short term, but also in their adult life ahead.

Bullying causes depression and anxiety problems in individuals. Victims have been

reported to more often develop internalising problems and anxiety disorder or depression

disorder(Wolke). This is not some simple thing that can just develop, it can affect an

individual's whole life. Being stressed can take a toll on an individual's mind. Survivors of

bullying are more likely to develop social anxiety and agoraphobia(Wilson). The victims will

have a hard time in areas which every normal person goes to everyday. The survivors will not

want to interact much with others which will could lead to depression. Bullying will continue to

set you up for hopelessness and depression(Dombeck). All those mean things that someone will

be told will contribute to falling into a deep pit. They feel like they are not much in this world

and will not know that they are worth something. Being [excluded] from groups can lead to

depression or even suicide(Kowalski). Having people around will help push depression away. If

someone are excluded, it will make them feel like they are not worth anything. This is a very

dangerous cycle of anxiety problems and depression in individuals.

Depression also causes the victims to have a lower self-esteem in their life ahead.

Bullying is an attempt to instill fear and self-loathing(Dombeck). Hating oneself is not the way

to go. It is important to love oneself more than anything. It will be easier to talk to everyone and

just be happy in general. Bullying also damages your ability to view yourself as desirable,

capable, and effective individual(Dombeck). Having less interactions because someone thinks

themself as undesirable is outrageous. It will harm the confidence that you need to complete

certain tasks(Wilson). That determination to finish what is important is a necessity. It will make

an individual and everyone around them happy because people will know that they are a

dependable person. That low self-esteem grows from the depression that comes from bullying.

Another factor that survivors of bullying deal with is loss of trust. Long-term bullying

exposure may affect social relationships with parents, friends and co-workers(Wolke). Trusting

others will make someone's life so much easier. Survivors will not get stressed out by doing

things by themselves. The victims had a higher risk of developing antisocial personality

disorder(Pappas). Not talking to people will affect mental health. Without someone to talk to it

might drive a person nuts. Victims will not be able to trust anyone with their feelings because

they are insecure(Wilson). Trusting people is really good, it will not be as stressful and letting

out those feeling to someone can take a huge burden off a persons shoulders. Everybody needs

someone to trust once in awhile. That loss of trust is very serious and is one of the most

important issues.

Bullying can cause significant health problems in the future of bullying survivors. Those

who were bullied have 15 times the likelihood of developing a panic disorder(Pappas). A

normal life cannot be lived if the victim has a panic attack. It will screw up an individual's entire

day because they will not function properly. The survivors of bullying could experience post-

traumatic stress which could have significant sleeping problems(Wilson). Sleep is important in

order to fulfill all the needs of that day. Therapy would be needed to help ease the PTSD issues

that bullying may cause. It is important that a victim[stays] calm [because it] helps in tough

situations(Kowalski). The victim will be more resilient if they are more confident in situations

that require them to be at top shape. It has been proven that bullying may increase the risk of

cardiovascular diseases and other metabolic disorders(Wolke). Do not be fooled that bullying

cannot affect someone seriously. A victim of bullying has a higher chance of dying because of

how it affects their heart and many other parts of their body. These huge health issues should not

be taken lightly.

Bullying is a very serious problem especially because it affects adult life way far into the

future. If you see bullying happening around you, help stop it or report it. You could save a life if

you help. Imagine knowing you could have helped someone, but were too afraid to. That would

be really rough. Bullying can be a very tough time ahead if encountered at a young age.
