ACTIVITY PLAN
1. Vocabulary Strategy(ies):
Monday-
Clustering:
Students begin with a word circled in the center, then connect the word to related
ideas, images, and feelings which are also circled and which branch out from the
center word.
I will have the students write Beethovens Symphony No. 5 in the center circle
and have them look through their music scores to find all of the expression,
dynamic, articulation, and any other markings to fill out the rest of the cluster.
They will then add a branch to each word so that they can define it later.

Personal Glossary:
A personal glossary is a glossary that every individual student makes so that they
can use it as a resource for the class.
The students will purchase a composition book and will use it as their personal
glossary. The students will write in the definition that I provide them, they will
redefine the word in their own words, they will draw a picture of the word, or
create some sort of visual representation of the word. The students will use the
words they have identified on their clusters to fill in their personal glossaries.

2. Comprehension Strategy(ies):
Tuesday-Friday-
Slicing:
Taking a big concept and breaking it down into smaller parts that are more easily
comprehendible by the students.
I will be breaking down each chapter of the text into small lectures and reading
activities each day of the week.
I will start with an introductory mini-lesson on Tuesday. This mini-lesson will
introduce the Industrial Era and the times in which Beethoven lived.

3. Writing Strategy(ies):
Thursday- (writing, discussion, and comprehension activity)
Writing Roulette:
With a set time limit, students write about a topic. When the timer goes off, they pass
the paper to the next person who will then continue to write from where the previous
person left off.
I will have students write about the cultural context in which Beethoven lived.
The students will work in groups of 5. Each group will share their work at the
end and the whole class will have a discussion on each work. This activity will
serve as a review of the material to prepare students for the summative
assessment on the following day.

4. Discussion Strategy(ies):
Wednesday-
Text appetizer:
This is a teacher-created introduction to a reading assignment that offers a
framework for comprehending the text by relating new knowledge to what students
already know. The teacher creates an interest-building paragraph based on real
events and that relates to the text. The students read and discuss the text appetizer
and think about the guiding questions as they read the actual text.
I will have students have a discussion on the Industrial Revolution Era.

Discussion Groups:
Students work in small groups to discuss topics or questions provided by the
teacher.
I will do a mini-lecture to continue my lessons on the cultural context of
Beethovens time and the students will have small group discussion based on
questions that I provide for them.

5. Assessment Strategy(ies):
Friday-
Summative Assessment:
These are formal assessments that encompass a larger amount of information;
usually a unit test or some other assessment that tests comprehension of knowledge
that comes from multiple days of teaching.
I will assess students grasp of the material of the week through a summative
multiple choice and short answer questions.
