Mr. Arenivas,
Overview
The client for this Communication Design capstone is The Epicenter, a non-profit organization
located in Salinas, California that helps underprivileged youth reach their potential. Manuel
Arenivas, the Program Coordinator at The Epicenter, is the representative for this project. The
Epicenters current logo doesnt communicate effectively to an outsider of what the organization
is and stands for. In order to fix this, the designer, Tharen Usi, will create a new logo for The
Epicenter amongst other resources such as pamphlets and updated letterheads.
The audience ages that range from elementary school to college, regardless of race or economic
background. Some system design features that the designer, Tharen Usi, will create include
graphic identity and marketing materials such as a new logo, pamphlets and newsletters. Manuel
Arenivas will provide the photos and text and the designer will have the needed hardware and
softwares such as a laptop and Adobe. The final delivery date will be on May 12, 2017 and the
final deliverables will include digital files on a CD such as .ai, .psd, and .tiff files and a graphic
Going into the project, I didnt expect to have any problems occur. However, halfway through
my Capstone, my client quit from The Epicenter and I was handed over to his successor. It
took some time to adjust to a new person to go over designs and concepts. With the new
client representative, I had some trouble communicating with her and had to sometimes
send an e-mail multiple times in order to receive a response back. Aside from this bump, there
were no other difficulties such as technical difficulties, project creeps, or delays.
To test my project, I tested out how the website would look on three different browsers:
Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari. Aside from this, I even did user tests from users
ranging from high school students to senior citizens. From my tests, I found that the photos
were the main selling point and were useful for the user to better understand what The
Epicenter is.
