The Professional Philosophy Statement

Identify your personal values and beliefs around teaching and learning: How do you
believe young children learn? Based on this, what do you believe your role is?
Beyond teaching and learning, reflect and write about what you believe are the
other important aspects of your role in the lives of children and families?

I believe that children learn best through observation. Observational learning,

by definition, is a type of learning in which a person learns new information and
behaviors by observing the behaviors of others. Children are all about monkey
see, monkey do, so setting good examples is very important in the early stages of
life. If the child sees good behavior, the child will know to act with the same
behavior. As a teacher, the greatest role they can play in this learning environment
is to be a good model for the children. The NAEYC gives four other important
aspects to the childrens learning environment that I totally agree. The first aspect is
the relationship with the adult. These relationships promote social competence and
emotional development within their academic learning. The second, hands-on
involvement, is a huge part of their learning. Children learn best when they are
active in the classroom. The third aspect is meaningful experiences. This means
that what the children are learning means something to them, that they care about
learning in the classroom. The last aspect is constructing their understanding of
the world, which means that they are trying to figure out things on their own.
Families, along with educators, should be good models for their children and abide
by these aspects.
