By Ashley Holder April 22, 2017 4:15 PM ET

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Each year, Delta Delta Delta

sorority at the University of Maryland holds their annual
Delta House of Pancakes, or DHOP for short. It is an
annual fundraiser for St. Jude Childrens Research
Hospital and it is cosponsored by Kappa Alpha Order
fraternity and the College Park Fire Department.

Yesterday, the sorority held the event at their home on

College Avenue from 5:30-9 p.m.

The event is an all-you-can-eat pancake buffet. There are

chocolate chip pancakes, regular, and a lot of toppings
that make the pancakes a sweet treat for all of those who
attend the event.

Tickets were sold by the members of Tri Delta for $5 in

advance and $7 at the door. The house was decorated
in the theme colors of red, white, and blue. Each Tri Delta members pose for their

Rachel Gunning, a sophomore business

DHOP is her favorite philanthropy event
of the year.

We try to make it as fun as possible. We

have a DJ and unlimited pancakes, which

makes people want to come to it. Everyone is singing, dancing, and having fun knowing they are
giving back to the children at St. Jude, said Gunning.

Each member helps with the banner making, event planning and the making of the pancakes.
Maddy Scarff, the sororities philanthropy chair, spent weeks planning and coordinating the
event.

Ive always been into community service. It started in high school when I realized I loved to
work with kids. I wanted to continue doing community service for that reason. I joined Tri Delta

-more-
because St. Jude is their philanthropy. Cancer has had a major impact on my life and it couldnt
be more rewarding raising money for the children of St. Jude and I look forward to visiting
Memphis in July, Scarff said.

In total, Tri Delta raised about $7,000 at DHOP this year with the help of their cosponsors and
had a total of 522 people attend the event. The rest of the $3,500 raised was made through
donations.

The sorority has two other philanthropy events of the year benefitting St. Jude. Bids for Kids,
which is an auction also held at their house on College Avenue, and Sincerely Yours, a letter
making event that the sorority members send to their closest friends and relatives reminding
them the importance of giving back.
