Rationale

The Newman Fellowship Programme is UCDs most prestigious post-doctoral programme and is a
leading international platform for researchers in the humanities and sciences. The programme is
100% financed by business and industry and is a key mechanism for building strategic partnerships
between UCD and industry. Each Fellowship is awarded for two years and is a full-time post.

BUDGET
Note: The standard budget available for each Newman Fellowship is 100,000. In certain
circumstances, the total cost of a Newman Fellowship may be increased to cover the exceptional
costs of research consumables required in the specific area of research being undertaken. Any
increase must be discussed and agreed with the donor and the UCD Foundation prior to the launch
of the Fellowship. The Newman Fellow will receive a Fellowship bursary of 35,000 per annum for a
period of two years; this amount is fixed. The balance of the Fellowship is used to cover
recruitment, research consumables, travel and conference expenses for the Fellow. The UCD
Foundation retains 1,000 for donor stewardship including the Annual Newman Fellowship Dinner
and the OReilly Hall Donor Roll engraving.
