Review Work on Completion of Briefs Report

This report is all about looking and finding previous evidence from work which I have done
in the past, in year 13. I will be looking mostly at unit 54 and unit 34, however if I cant find
some of the evidence I will look in other units. I will use a mix of both units to make sure I
have evidence for the range on the unit 5 assignmnet 4 brief. As part of this report I will be
mostly looking at how I reviewed my work in evaluations and meetings with the client.

Relationship with client:

Liaison with client

As part of keeping in touch with the client I had a discussion with them to confer my ideas
for my TV ident in unit 32, and I then created a log in a client liaison diary format. One of
these logs wasnt required for the units I chose. The diary evidence above shows the times
and details of what I had talked to the client about.

Dealing with difficulties and complaints

When it came to any problems I had when making my animation in Unit 34, I dealt with
them and included them within my diary and evaluation, talking about how I resolved them
and fixed any problems I came across. There wasnt any complaints from the client during
the meeting as they were happy with the progress and work I was producing. Below you can
see the first page of my evaluation in readable form, and the rest as screenshots, that talks
about any problems I had to resolve during the animation production process.

Genre
This is something, which I did not really consider, as it was not a necessary requirement for
the client. If I were to give my animation a genre it would probably be educational or
entertainment. I would say that my animation is educational as it teaches children age 5-11
years old how to stay healthy and what is good and bad for you. They are more likely to
watch it if they enjoy it and easily understand what is going on. I gave my animation a boring
but simple name, which tells the viewer exactly what my animation is about. I think the use
of the upbeat and popular sound clips add to the genre and entertainment as it will interact
with the younger generation well. As my animation has a purpose as well as entertainment
to it, children are more likely to want to watch it.
Victoria Holt

Content
The finished animation content resembles my original idea as it continues the dance class
theme and has all the correct scenes, which were marked on my storyboards. A couple of
the scenes were tweaked towards the end because I had to add another boy character into
the storyline. This meant that instead of the planned scenes 3 + 4. What
actually happened was the boy came on stage and talked about what is
good and what is bad about what you eat. Throughout my animation,
the characters stop moving a few times, as I had a few technical
difficulties with getting their legs to move throughout. At a couple of
points, the arms of the dancer do not move how I wanted. At the end of
my animation I re-added the music back again instead of just having
dialogue and silence. At the end of the conversation between the girl and boy there is a big
gap between the dialogue and music, as I could not fix this problem however, it does not
sound too bad. Other than these slight problems, I followed my dope sheets to match my
original intentions and I am very happy with how it turned out. From my dope sheets
details, I changed the background music so that it was slightly quieter than what were I had
intended, this is so you could hear the voiceovers clearer.
As I began to put my animation together I realised I was spreading the movements out too
much over more frames than I planned for each scene. I had to do this, as there would not
be enough frames by the end of my animation. Towards the end, there is a couple of
frames, which I would have changed in order to make the dancers arms move as well as the
legs. In general, the sound clips and voiceovers were placed in the right place and very
nicely synced with the movements on stage. The general content of my animation is the
same as what was written and drawn on my dope sheets.

Revisions to brief
When it came to making my animation I didnt really review my brief however I occasionally
checked to make sure that I was still meeting the brief. As part of checking this, I filled out
milestone reviews, however I only did milestones for units like 78 and 32. You can see these
below to show what I had done since the last milestone review and how my time
management was going.

I also referred to my client meeting notes for unit 54 every now and again to check I was
keeping to the requirements from the client for my pixels graphics.
Victoria Holt

Revisions to plan
When it came to completing my work for units like 34 & 54 I often
checked to see whether or not it looked like my original intentions.
When it comes to my scheduling time plan I reviewed it during my
work and found that I finished the work early on a few occasions. To
the right is the evidence of the time plan I was given for the
production process for unit 54, and you can see that I didnt need to
come in for a couple of the given session. You can also see below
where my graphic storyboards looked like my finished graphics.

Format:
Evidence for (Written report, Podcast, PPT & Pitch)
As part of unit 34 I had to write a few different reports including the proposal, checklist and
evaluation. You can see sections of these below:
Range Evidence
Transitions When it comes to having transitions in my animation, there is not
many as there is not a lot of scene changes where the
background graphic is different in separate frames. There will be
a couple of effects on my music clips so that you can hear the
voiceovers over the music in the background. I have also made it
so that some of my music fades in and out.
Victoria Holt

The only transitions, which I have used, are only featured on my

opening and closing credits text so that it
comes from the centre bottom of the stage
up to the top. I will do this using the motion
tween tool. When the motion tween is
added, you can see a purple line with dots,
which shows the points in which the text will
move.
Timing Timing is an important and essential part when trying to ensure
that all my scenes fit correctly and that I keep my animation to
the correct length of 30 seconds, as specified by the client. When
I first set up my dope sheets, I worked out that each scene would
last around 120 frames. The calculation I did was 24 x 30 (frames
per second x length of my animation. I then did 720 divided by 6
as thats the number of scenes I have.

By the end of my animation, it was around 815

frames in length including the opening and closing
credits. A couple of the middle scenes used more
frames than planned as the movements of the
limbs needed a new pose every few frames, which
wasnt originally planned.
Frame Numbers Altogether, in my animation there will be around 720 frames as
my animation is going to last 30 seconds at a frame rate of 24
fps. In my animation, I have used frame numbers to keep on
track with what scene I am working on and how long each scene
will last. The frame numbers are useful because they help you
work out where abouts different movements happen within my
animation. The frame numbers are shown on the timeline
window, you can change the view of the frames so that they
appear bigger or smaller depending on what you want to do.
When it came to finishing my animation, I had actually used
more frames than I thought I would. This is because I wasnt
keeping an eye on where I was up to with my scenes as I was
going along. To solve this problem I
would set up my animation to 720 and
then add all my animation.

Client Meeting Notes:

Create and design a 2D animation in Flash
30 seconds long
Linked to healthy eating
Made for the BBC
Opening and closing credits needed
Stage size 832 x 624
Needs sound clips and narration voiceovers
Needs to be informative and have a storyline
Suitable for 5-11 year olds
Ideal for both genders
I will need to undertake Adobe Flash training sessions

Consideration of Audience Appeal:

Age
A campaign like Change4life is aimed at all ages from 2 year olds to 80 +. The reason
change4life have chosen this target age is because they want to make sure that everyone
stays healthy so that they can live longer. This is portrayed in there moto, Eat well, Move
more, Live longer. Change4life had to consider their audience well before creating their
campaign so that they could choose an appropriate colour scheme and suitable storylines
for all ages. Change4life adverts tend to have a strong message behind them but at the
same time the advert appear friendly. Up to a certain age, they will not be bothered about
what they eat however; the childrens parents will still be concerned.
The target age for my animation, which is set by the client is for primary school kids aged 5-
11 years old. The reason for this is the fact that the aim of the animation is to encourage
them to eat more fruit and vegetables so that they can live longer. It is better to
encourage them at a young age so that when they grow up they will automatically eat
these foods without thinking about whether it is healthy or not. I will use voiceovers to
appeal to the younger audience as younger children will not be able read at the young age
Victoria Holt

im targeting my animation at. By having a young age range, it means that the children will
not be as bothered about what they eat and will just think of the animation as
entertainment.
Gender
Change4life is aimed at both males and females and they tend to make sure that all their
adverts are gender-neutral, meaning their storylines are suitable for everyone. They have
also chosen their colour scheme, which is multi-coloured to suit everyone. They mostly use
pink and blue which balance each other out as pink is known to be a female colour. Gender
is important to consider when creating animations like this because you are trying to keep
everyone live better. Change4life try not to base their animations around something like

As part of the evaluation for unit 62, year 12, I had the choice of doing an evaluation as a
podcast or written report. The whole idea of this was part of showing a different format for
my evaluation. Below you can see my saved podcast in my work area.
Victoria Holt

On a couple of the units I was asked to create a PowerPoint instead of a written report as
this was stated on the brief. I didnt have to do this for unit 34 & 54 however I was asked to
create one for unit 60 & 1, you can see some of the slides below, but not all as the
PowerPoint was 45 slides long:

I didnt do any kind of presentation pitch for unit 34 or unit 54 however in unit 72 I created a
pitch to present to my peers of my new game idea, showing the features, characters, plot
and cost. You can see part of it below:
Victoria Holt

Constraints Experienced:
Legal
In unit 78 I wrote about the legal considerations for my game, they are shown below:
Copyright-
Copyright is a law which protects things such as documents, images, text, music files and
videos, these are mostly things found on a computer as it is easier to steal work especially if
its published on the web. The reason why copyright is used is because it ensures that your
work is safe and cannot be copied by anyone. Another purpose of copyright is to make sure
that a creators work is protected if it ever gets stolen. It also made sure that people got
rewarded for the things they made themselves. The law was created and put in place in
1988.
If this act wasnt put in place, there would be little anyone can do legally if their work was
stolen or claimed as their own. You can only break the copyright law if you have taken
something which was initially someone else without their permission. If the copyright isnt
with the creator themselves, it can sometimes be hard to track but using primary assets
without their permission may put you in trouble due to you being in violation of this
copyright law. The person who holds the copyright is the only person who can authorise the
reproduction of work even if the work is on an electronic device.
Victoria Holt

Currently you dont need to apply or register for this law to be put in place as it is done
automatically, this then lasts for a lifetime and an extra 70 years after the creator has died.
After the 70 years has passed the copyright is then usually handed down to the creators
heirs. If someone is commissioned to do any kind of design work, they will retain the
copyright until both parties decide otherwise. If the visual creators are employed and not
working for themselves, the employer is the one who retains the copyright.
With images you can get ones called stock photos which are photos where the copyright
owner has decided to allow the public to freely use them. These are normally found on the
internet as this is a place where a lot of useful resources are kept these days. Sometimes
strict rules are put in place with the stock photos stating where and when the photos can be
used, these rules are made by the copyright owner so it is vital that you read what the
copyright holder has specified first. Also with images you can buy the right to use a
copyrighted image if you wanted that particular image.
In terms of software packages what you have to do is purchase a licence to use that certain
package legally, this means you dont own of the rights of it but have permission from the
company to use it legally. Each of the software packages has one licence which means it can
only be used on one computer. If you were to re-use the same disk and load the software
onto another computer for a different person to use, then you would be breaking the
copyright law and so you would need to buy another licence in order to do this legally.
Multi-user packages are good for businesses and schools as a large number of people all
need to be using the same software at once. People are more likely to comply with these
laws if its a multiuser package as they wont have to buy numerous single packages for each
piece of software they want. Multi-user licences work by stating a certain number of users
who can log into a network and use the program at once. Once this number of people is
met, no one else can use the software until someone logs off. If more people than stated log
on then it becomes illegal and it becomes a problem. The third option for software is whats
called a site licence, this is more adaptable and it means that the software can be loaded
onto every machine in an office or school and everyone can use it at the same time. It
sometimes allows for staff members to have a copy of the program to use at home but it
will have to be checked beforehand. The client must then be aware of these limitations.
In conclusion my game graphics must make sure all these copyright issues are considered
and that the client is kept fully informed of any breach in advance.
Libel-
This tends to mean that a document contains a false statement, which could potentially ruin
someones reputation or decrease respect/confidence for someone. It could possibly
include feelings against someone as well. If someone is accused of doing something like this
they must provide evidence of the message which contained false information, prove that
the information was published, the person can be identified as being harmed and prove of
the damage done to the person reputation. Normally there are 4 defences truth, consent,
accident and privilege. There can also be use of opinions on my website which could
Victoria Holt

potentially be used to make allegations towards other. The action can be against an
individual person or an organisation.

Regulatory codes of practise

In unit 78 I wrote about codes of practise for the game that I was creating, the evidence is
shown below:
Codes of practise promote production and distribution of official statistics that inform
decision making of anything in the UK. It helps producers and users of statistics by setting
out the necessary practices to produce statistics that are trustworthy, high quality and of
public value.
Agreement with the Code is a legal requirement on bodies that produce statistics that are
chosen as National Statistics through the Authoritys Assessment process.
While the formal opportunity of the Code is official statistics, many of the practices are likely
to be helpful to producers of other data such as management information and those outside
of official statistics.
In my game I dont use statistics so I dont need to follow or comply with any of these codes
however if I did use some statistics of how many people play certain games or how many of
each game has been sold in the last year. Id have to make sure I cohere to these codes.

Management:
Time management and working to agreed timescales
This is the ILP I was given at the start of assignment 2 for unit 54, it takes me
through the individual tasks which I need to do each session within college. I
used the ILP throughout the assignment to keep on track and on time. At the
end of each lesson in class I completed session reviews which explained what I
had achieved each session. The session reviews helped me as I could then see
what I had done and what I had left to complete for deadline. If I kept on track
with the tasks I knew that I would easily complete the work to deadline. We
only had 8 sessions to complete assignment 2. An ILP is basically a great way
of visualising and time managing the time that I was given to complete the
planning of my graphics. I managed to complete all the work to deadline for
this assignment and kept to the agreed timescales.

Communication skills
In terms of communication skills, I had to have a client meeting to check that I had all the
details and specifications for making my graphics for the pixels. The communication skills
developed as it allowed me to interact with the client and talk through anything that didnt
make sense or I could talk to the client if I had any problems. Below you can see my client
meeting notes:
Victoria Holt

Meeting requirements
When it comes to meeting requirements of a brief, I had to make sure that I was keeping to
certain requests that were asked of on the brief. I used my client meeting notes to refer to
during the creation of my graphics.

On my evaluation and proposal I wrote about the ways in which I was going to meet and
met the client brief throughout the creation of my graphics.

Intro:
This proposal is tell the client about all the specifications of my graphics for the promotional
material, for The Pixel band. This promotional artwork follows on from The Pixels web
banner I have made previously. The brief suggests I have make sure the graphics are suitable
for my chosen audience and include all the relevant information. When creating my graphics
I will make a creation diary. The Pixels are a mid-20s ages band with 5 members being: 2
guitarists, 1 bassist, a drummer and a singer.

Client Meeting Notes:

I had a meeting with the client to discuss the details and specifications in which I will require
in order to complete my graphics (CD cover, Logo and Poster)

Working for a group called The Pixels

The Pixels are a band
As many people as you want in the band
Produce promotional materials
Create a logo for band
Can use original logo from web banner or create a new one)
Create an A3 poster
Make sure the poster is the correct size with the logo included
The poster must include tour dates and venues, maybe give tour a name
CD cover Check size, research size of dual case in proposal, must have logo on
Research what are mandatory items for the CD cover
Looking for good quality in the graphics
Software Could use Photoshop, Paint.net or Adobe Illustrator
Victoria Holt

Establish Concept:
For the Pixels band I will be creating 3 different graphics types including an A3 Poster, CD
cover and a logo. Each of my graphics will link together because they will all have a similar
theme and background image as well as all 3 graphics containing the logo I have designed. I
will create all my graphics on either Photoshop or Illustrator as these are both pieces of
software which I have used in the past.
For my logo I am going to use the original logo, that I used for The Pixels web banner in a
previous unit. I have used the typical idea of including mini cubes in my design to
demonstrate the pixels idea. Pixels are known to be little squares that make up an image or
graphic so this ties in quite well. My logo design is also brightly coloured so that it is eye
catching on Posters, unlike a logo for a band like Bastille which uses black and
white. In my logo I have also incorporated a picture of a guitar as it is one of the
main instruments which is used within the band. The use of the guitar instantly
Victoria Holt

Effectiveness:
Extent to what the brief has been realised
The client gave me details for making my graphics including the name of the band, the
material which I need to make, the number of graphics I will need to produce and the
essential information I need to include. I made sure that my graphics had the logo used
throughout and the quality was of a good standard. The brief also asked me to produce 3
graphics that promote and advertise The Pixels band.
Use of appropriate methods and techniques
When creating my graphics, I had to use various techniques and skills in the process. I have
wrote about all the tools I have used in my creation diary and then given evidence of those
in my checklist with a screenshot. In my diary is where every step that I went through is
explained with screenshot evidence. I used various different tools throughout the process
and below are only a couple which I have used the most on each of my graphics. I also
made sure when using these tools that I kept a level of professionalism throughout.
In the process of making my graphics there were many tools/techniques that I used
include the magic wand tool that allowed me to highlight certain areas and remove
them. I mostly used this tool to get rid of the white backgrounds from my internet images. A
technique that I used a lot through out the production of my graphics is the layer/blending
effects where I could put a pattern overlay over text. I used another blending option called
stroke which allowed me to outline text. There is a couple of common tools I used in
Photoshop to make my graphics and these were things like the text tool, eraser/paintbrush
and line tool. The line tool allowed me to create a spine on my back cover CD graphic.
Another tool that I used was the rectangle marquee tool to highlight an area and then
remove it without deleting the whole graphic itself.
Level of professionalism achieved
When it comes to making my graphics look professional I have added extra effects to make
some of the text stand out more than others to catch the readers attention. I had to make
sure my graphics looked consistent and professional throughout so that my work
maintained a high standard. As I did a couple of quick drafts beforehand it allowed me to
get on quicker with the finalised versions of my graphics, which is another way how I kept a
level of professionalism. I think I created my graphics in a professional manner and used a
variety of skills to show that. If I wanted to make them more professional I would use a
more limited colour scheme so its not all multi-coloured. I also worked in a professional way
which meant that if I missed a session and was behind I could easily catch up in my own
time.

Achieving agreed outcomes

By achieving agreed outcomes it means that I have met the client meeting specifications and
the client will be happy with the work I have produced. Below you can see the notes I made
at the start of assignment 2 for unit 54 to show all the required specifications for the
graphics, these notes ensured that I met the agreed outcomes. The notes from the client
meeting are shown below:

I also completed an evaluation for unit 34 to show how I

had used narration, content etc to meet the agreed
outcomes.

Feedback:
From Peers
I made this questionnaire at the end of unit 34 and gave it to 10 of my peers to
gather feedback about my finished animation. In response to the brief, my
feedback showed that my peers thought the animation met the criteria and it got a
high overall rating. I asked questions such as if it met the target audience and if it
ran smoothly throughout. Part of the brief said that I had to get some results and
create a statistical review and this is the way in which I went about it.
This is the feedback which I gathered from the results of my questionnaire, it shows
that I collected the results and sorted them after this I then came up with a conclusion. The
feedback I gathered is as shown below
Below show the results of the questionnaire that I created for my animation. I got 10 people
in the class to fill them out.
1. The first question asked is the animation about 30
seconds with the credits. 80% of people said that my Is the animation about 30
animation was equal to 30 seconds. The other 20% seconds with credits?
said that my animation was less than, however this is
not true as my animation lasts around 32 seconds.
This means no one thought my animation was more
than 30 seconds in length. I am happy with the result
of this question as it means everyone was happy with
the length and it meets the criteria. Less than More than Equal to 30 seconds

2. Question 2 was about whether or not the plot is easy to understand and why. From the
results, it seems that 100% of people answered yes, to whether the plot made sense.
One person said that it was very clear and simple; three people said the narration helps
tell the story. These are good comments as it means younger children will easily
understand what is happening in my animation, especially because of the voiceovers.
3. When I asked the 10 people whether the voiceovers and music is suitable, all 10 of
them said that they were whilst. This is a good thing as it means that the volume and
clarity is very good and does not need any amendments.
4. Question 4 was where I asked if my animation is targeted correctly to the 5 - 11 year
olds age group. When looking at my results I found 10 out of 10 people thought that it
did. When I asked why, these are some of the responses I got:

Its suitable for boys and girls

The characters look friendly

Its simple but effective

Its got suitable characters

Victoria Holt

Its easy to understand

Children often dance at a young age

5. For question 5 I asked if my animation is professional for use in the BBC and the
response was that 100% of people said that it was. This means that it is likely that the
animation will be shown on the BBC, according to my peers.

Final/Overall Conclusions (Evaluations)

Below is the evaluation I completed for unit 54, assignment 4 that explain how I met the
requirements for my graphics. There is a few areas of the brief I had to cover within the
evaluation including, effectiveness, sources of information, production process and finished
product. I did a self evaluation where I went back over all my work to see if I was happy with
everything. In this evaluation I talked about anything I could of improved upon and if I liked
the look of my finished graphics. The feedback I gave my self tended to be quite positive
with not many things I would change.

some of the text stand out more than others to catch the readers attention.
I also worked in a professional way
which meant that if I missed a session and was behind I could easily catch up in my own
time.
