Lesson Development/Procedures
Pre-assessment:
Pre-assessment will take place in the lesson prior to this during debrief. During closing circle, students will be verbally asked the
following pre-assessment questions in a whole group setting just to gauge prior knowledge:
what is stop motion?
have you ever created a stop motion animation?
have you ever watched a stop motion animation?
My hope is that this might help me identify some students who have experience in the area of stop motion you would be willing to be
experts

Message:
Hello Artists! Today we will open a new station the stop motion animation station! At this station, you will be able to use
an app on our class iPad to create short movies. What norms do you think we might need to use this station responsibly?

Engagement:
Show students a student created stop motion video from another choice-based studio. Brainstorm aloud what norms might be needed
to use the station responsibly. Model using the app to create a short video. Ask students for notices (you had a plan first, you only
used a few frames, you only used a few materials) to create a norms list for the station. Create a sign up sheet3 students/groups per
day for the next 4 classes.
Activity:
During work time, students who have signed up will be able to use the station. Save student videos for viewing later.
Transition:
Students clean up stations and circle up for share.
Closure:
Students circle up to share. students who created short videos can choose to share their videos with the class. Classmates will share
stars with groups. Share with usual share bag as a whole class.

Assessment: (Review of Anticipation Guides; Post-tests; BCRs; Quizzes; Tests; Projects; Essays: Performance Assessments, etc.)
at this point, exploration and experimentation are the main goal. Student work will be assessed on following norms of the
station and willingness to try a new material.
Differentiation:
students have choice in regards to when they feel ready to try this station and what materials they decide to use, along with whether
they create independently or with a small group
