Mini ToolBox
Release Notes
Introduction
This document provides late-breaking or other information that supplements the
user guide or the online help of the FTB-1 or its modules.
The current Mini ToolBox baseline contains all the required components for the
management of your FTB-1 and test modules. It ensures that all the provided
components are compatible with one another.
For more information about the FTB-1, refer to the online help or the user guide
(available from the installation DVD).
Installing or Updating Applications

Note: Only administrator-level users can install software under Windows Embedded
Standard.
If you need to install or update applications, use Update Manager which is

available on your platform (on the Windows desktop). For more information on
installation and update, refer to the user guide of the FTB-1 and to the online help
of Update Manager.
Removing Applications
If you need to remove applications, use Update Manager which is available on your
platform (on the Windows desktop). For more information on how to remove
applications, refer to the online help of Update Manager.

New Product Registration

You can now register your new EXFO products either online or directly from your
unit (if it is connected to the Internet), and benefit from every possible opportunity
to optimize their performance. By doing so, you will always be notified of the latest
software updates, key product enhancements and up-to-date support information
related to your products.
To register your product directly from your unit:
1. Ensure that your unit can access the Internet.
2. On the Windows taskbar, tap Start, then select All Programs > EXFO >
Update Manager > ProductRegistration.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
To register your product online:
1. Open a Web browser and go to www.exfo.com.
2. Log in to your My EXFO account.
3. Under My Tools, click Register my product.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Viewing User Documentation

Both online and .pdf versions of the latest user guides are available on your
installation DVD. They are stored in the User Documentation folder.
If you do not already have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the .pdf documents, or if
you have an old version installed, you can install it directly from your DVD or from
the Adobe Web site.
To view the documentation:
1. Turn on the computer and insert the installation DVD in the CD/DVD drive.
2. From the Welcome window on the installation DVD, click User Guides.
3. Open the folder corresponding to the language in which you want to view the
document.
4. Double-click a file to view it.
5. When the operation is complete, click Close, and then Exit to close the
installation DVD window.
Note: The user documentation may not be available in all of the listed languages.
Note: You can also view the latest documentation on the My EXFO section of the Web site.
To install Adobe Acrobat Reader:

1. From the Welcome window on the installation DVD, click Desktop Utilities.
2. From Desktop Utilities, click Adobe Reader x (where x corresponds to the
version of the reader).
The installation starts automatically.
3. Follow the instructions on screen.
4. When the operation is complete, click Close, and then Exit to close the
installation DVD window.

Restoring Your Platform to Normal Operation

If you ever encounter major problems with your FTB-1 (for example, you cannot
start it) you can restore your unit to normal operation from the Maintenance and
recovery mode. For current updates, use Update Manager.
You can either revert your unit to its initial state (as it was when you purchased it)
or restore it with a specific Windows image (WIM) that could have been provided
to you by EXFO customer service, for example. If you want to use a WIM, ensure
that you have it close at hand (on a USB key for example) before proceeding to the
restoration.
For more information on how to restore your unit to normal operation, refer to the
Troubleshooting section of the online help or user guide of your FTB-1.
Cleaning the Touchscreen of Your FTB-1 Unit

Clean the touchscreen with a soft, non-abrasive cloth, such as one used for
cleaning reading glasses, dampened with water.
CAUTION
Using anything else than water can damage the special coating of
the touchscreen.

necessary components to manage hardware. Normally, you do not have to select the Platform product. If you want to update the FTB-1 platform itself,
you should select the Shell product. The Platform will be selected automatically along with any other product when it is required.

1.10 SP1 This Service Pack includes the following:
Enhancement of the platform services.
Resizing of the windows in the Options Activation tool.
1.10 The FTB-860 application can now be removed
normally.

Connect Client application (purchase of specific
