1 You are required to submit your coursework on-line through online e-learning

2 Details of submission procedures and penalty fees can be obtained from Academic
Administration or the general student handbook
3 Late coursework will be accepted by Academic Admin Office and marked according to
the guidelines given in your Student Handbook for this year.
4 If you need an extension (even for one day) for a valid reason, you must request one,
using a coursework extension request form available from the Academic Admin Office. The
completed form must be accompanied by evidence such as a medical certificate in the event of
you being sick.
5 General guidelines for submission of coursework:
a) All work must be word-processed and must be of good standard.
b) Document margins shall not be more than 2.5cm or less than 1.5cm

c) Font size in the range of 11 to 14 points distributed to including headings and body text. The
preferred typeface must be of a common standard such as Arial or Times New Roman for the
main text.
d) Any computer files generated such as program code (software), graphic files that form part of
the course work must be submitted either online with the documentation or otherwise as
explained by your tutor.
e) The copy of the course work submitted may not be returned to you after marking and you are
advised to have your personal copy for your reference.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT
1. In order to pass this assessment, you must have read extensively, using diverse sources of
information including textbooks and online resources to be found on STPonline.
Recommended textbooks can be found in the library at St-Patricks college, either as hard
copies or partly in PDF format accessible from the college library website:
http://stpatrickslibrary.net. Other recommended websites are to be found on STPonline. Also,
search other sources on your own such as your local library, the British Library or any other
nearby library.

2. For each source of information you use in doing this assignment, ensure that you give the
source of your information by giving a reference in the text of your assignment, followed by
a list of the references you use at the very end of the body of your text in your essay. You
should use the appropriate referencing system-Harvard referencing system.

3. When writing your assignment, you should take particular care to organize it using the
given assessment criteria and grading descriptors as your guide.

4. An assignment will be set on STPonline for your Part 1 and Part 2 submissions separately
in each of the terms allocated for this unit.

Further guidance on the assignment will be given during lessons and other classroom
activities. Therefore, ensure that you attend all lessons in this unit.

5. Ensure that you do not exceed the stipulated word limit. If you exceed the word limit by
any amount, you will be penalized.

6. The assignment will have to be completed over 2 TERMS in 2 separate parts. Each part
must be submitted for grading at the end of the term in which it is delivered.

7. Specific guidelines are given below for the assessment method for this
assignment. Read each part carefully before you attempt the tasks.

SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS
PART 1 (1.1., 1.2., 1.3., 1.4., 1.5., 2.1)
In this part, you will select a research theme for your group. Your group will be formed in
class so be sure you do not miss class as this initial step is essential to your success in this

assignment. Write up a proposal agreed with your tutor based on your research theme and
submit as a Turnitin Assignment, which will be set on STPonline.

Your main Tasks in PART1 of the assignment are as follow:

Task i
Select a research theme from any of the following themes:

1. Impact of diversity on health and social care provision


2. Health and wellbeing
3. Healthcare service improvement
4. Personal hygiene
5. Stress factors among college students
6. The importance of teamwork in health and social care

Task ii
Each individual member of each group should now choose a research topic within the
research theme and write a research proposal to be presented as a word document, and submit
it as a Turnitin assignment on STPonline.

Note: Prepare a one or two page(s) plan of your research proposal for formative assessment.

(NB: Your proposal, which should be not less than 1000 words and not more than 1100
words, must first be approved before you conduct your research project.)

Tips for Part 1:

Describe the type(s) of research method(s) and tools you would use to gather your
research data (also known as primary data)

Outline the specifications of your research. Also, clearly define the aims, objectives,
rationale for choosing your research topic and timelines for your research tasks.
Outline the resources at your disposal for this research.

Explain the role of ethical codes and ethics committees in research and prepare a
consent form for participants of your research.

Undertake literature search on your chosen research topic and note down key
references in text and in a reference list.
