OnSeptember1,1939atapproximately4:45AMGerman
troops(1.5million)bombedPolandfromlandandair,as
AdolfHitlerseekstoretakelostterritorytoruleover
PolandaswellasGermany.ThisisjustaprimerforHitler,
hehopestohaveablitzkrieg,aGermantermforaquick
victory,strategytoruleoverEurope.
HitlerhopestoachievethisbyinvadingPoland,extensively
bombingthemearlyontodestroyaircaptivityandrailroad
linesaswellascommunicationlines.Followedbyahuge
invasionwithalargenumberoftroops,tanksandguns.
WhileGermanymakestheirwaythroughPolanda
destructiveterrorstillistakingplace.
Aftertheinvasionhappenedbordersweresecured,security
wastightenedandconcentrationcampsarebeingmadenot
justforthereligious,butforracialandpolitical.Thefirst
dayoftheinvasionHitlerwasalreadyestablishingtheSS
trooptoterrorizelocals.
ThePolishdefencemadeabunchofstrategymechanismsto
defendagainstGermany.ThePolishforceswere
under-equippedfortheinvasion.Theyattemptedtorespond
andcometodefencewithcalverley,butGermanywas
simplynomatchforPoland.
3daysaftertheinvasionBritainrespondedbybombing
overGermany.
DespitetheinvasiontheUnitedStateshasrecognizedthat
thiswasonlythebeginningandwillturnintoalarge
conflict.OnSeptember3rdonlyafewdaysagoBritainand
FrancedeclaredwaronGermany,buttheUnitedStatesis
reluctanttodoso,duetoRoosevelt'sfailedplantoput
$1,319-millionintotheUnitedStatesdefencebudgetwhich
wasrejectedbycongress.Therestillaquestionwith
Americansifwemightactuallybecomeinvolvedinthewar
becauseWW1wasamistakeforustobecomeinvolved.

InseptemberwarbecamearealityinEuropeandalotof
pressurehasbeenputonAmericatojointhewar,butthats
notwhatthepeoplewant.FDRalreadyrequestedaccessto
abolishtheneutralityactbeforethewarbegan,hesayswe
wontjoinunlessweareattackedbuthehasalreadybegun
sellingarmstotheallies,whoknows,hemightevenbe
preparingtoattackwithoutusknowing.Andtothinkofall
theamericanlivesthatwillbelost,wealreadyareina
depression,howarewesupposedtoaffordthoselosses?
Howwilltheirfamilies?WeneedtotakecareofAmerica
andthedepressionbeforeevenconsideringthis,andweare
closetorecovery.Ifwefocusonthatandcometoafull
recoverythenandonlythen,canweenterthewar.
Wehavebeenineconomicdepressionfor10years,and
spendingallourmoneyonsendingtroopsallthewayto
Polandisjustthethingthatwillsendamericadeeperinto
thedepression.Wedon'thaveenoughtimeeither,wecan
haveAmericabackonitsfeetinashorttimeifwejust
workhard,anddon'tsendourworkersouttogetkilledat
war.Ifwestopsellingwarsuppliesandinsteadusethem
wewon'tmakeanyincomefromourarmsandthatwould
betragic.

Currentlytherehavebeententssetuparoundin
WashingtonD.Cformedicalcharity.Ifyouwouldliketo
donateyoucanlocatethemnearlocalhospitalstherewill
betwosoldiersper-tents.Thetentsaregreenwithred
medicalcrosstheyneedunopenedmedicine,peoplehave
alreadydonatedpenicillin,Acid,Acetylsalicylic,Rubbing
Alcohol,Morphine,Scissors,Bandages,Thermometers,Etc.
PleaseConsiderdonating
Thebenefitofthisisthatthemedicswillhavealotmore
suppliestosavethelivesofthesoldiersoutincombat.But
withWW2happeningwewillbeshortonmedicalsupplies
tillthewarisover.
AfewDoctorsandnursesfromcitiesandtownsallover
willbeinthemedicaltentsinthewar,wewillhavea
shortageofnursesanddoctorsinthecitiesandtowns,we
adviseyoutobecarefulwhilegoingthroughyourdaily

Lately,duetothewar,Ihavebeenreceivingquiteafew
lettersfromourreaders.Theyallcontaindifferentviewsof
whetherAmericashouldjointhewarornot.Ireally
wantedtosharethem,andwhatbetterwaythantopublish
them?
DearAdisonRhode,
MynameisJoanSmithandImhugefanofyourcolumn,
especiallylatelyregardingyourviewsonwhetherAmerica
shouldjointhewarornot.Asawomanwith2sonsanda
husband,it'sveryhardformetosupportsendingmyfamily
towar.
Iunderstandwecouldreallyhelpout,butIcouldn'tstand
toloseasonormyhusband.IfIhaditmyway,there
wouldbenodraftinthefirstplace,butbecausethereis,I
thinkthebestideaistostayoutofthewaraltogether.It's
seemsratherillogicaltoenterawarwhenwehaveno

completelythereasonsfortheinvasion,ItrustHitlertodo
whatGermanyneeds.WhatGermanyneedsisafresh
beginning,tobepureandcleanofjews.Ihaveconfidence
thatAdolfHitlerwillbetheonedigoutGermanyofarut.
