Nowadays, It is clear that teaching and learning English should include the use of

New Technologies of Information and Communication. The Internet has become a good

tool for teaching English as a foreign language. How can we use this new phenomenon? By

this I mean to prepare them to carry on real correspondence with other learners and native

speakers of English throughout the world, to use the internet as a source of knowledge, to

incorporate the internet as an integral part of their teaching, and in the case of this unit is to

practice in a virtual classroom via the internet.

This unit was implement in Centro Educativo Santa Clara, a privade school located in

Cartagena, The students were from 5to grade with a low level of English.

The goal of this didactic unit is to help students learn and improve their command of

English using the New Technologies of Information and Communication. Equally

important, work on the unit takes into account the English Curriculum set standards for four

domains of English language learning: social interaction; access to information;

presentation; and appreciation of literature and culture, and language. Besides, I want them

to enjoy their learning process whit different kind of strategies. The unit was called All

about you which was designed to provide a basic knowledge of the language.

Students learnt to say hello and good-bye, introduce yourself, exchange personal

information, spell names and Thank people. I divided the unit in 6 parts taking into account

students needs, interest and level of the language which are:


Grammar: the verb be, questions with Whats? and answers with Its
Vocabulary: expressions to say hello and good-bye, numbers 0-10, personal

information and everyday expressions.


Conversation strategy: ask how about you? use everyday expressions like Yeah and

Thanks.
Pronunciation: letters and numbers and E-mail addresses listening.
Reading: different types of identification cards and documents.
Writing: complete an application.

I uploaded videos, examples depending on the topic, songs, conversation . Besides, I

designed all of kind of activities such as task, quizzes, matching exercise, multiple choices

and open questions to help students in their learning process and show them that learning a

second language is more didactic using the power of the internet. These activities provided

learners access to online information, according to their language abilities.

Students were encouraged to interact with digital media, they created and share original

digital products online, students were aware of rules of acceptable online behavior, they

become confident users of a digital technologies and understand and reflect on the impact

of these technologies on society.

To sum up , The use of media enhance teaching and learning approaches. Effective

instruction builds bridges between students' knowledge and the learning objectives of the

course. Using media engages students, aids student retention of knowledge, motivates

interest in the subject matter, and illustrates the relevance of many concepts.
