Product Guide Specification

Specifier Notes: This product guide specification is written according to the Construction Specifications
Institute (CSI) 3-Part Format, including MasterFormat, SectionFormat, and PageFormat, as described
in The Project Resource ManualCSI Manual of Practice, Fifth Edition.

This section must be carefully reviewed and edited by the Architect or Engineer to meet the
requirements of the project and local building code. Coordinate this section with other specification
sections and the Drawings. Delete all Specifier Notes after editing this section.

Section numbers are from MasterFormat 1995 Edition, with section numbers and titles from
MasterFormat 2004 Edition in parentheses. Delete version not required.

SECTION 16120 (26 05 19.45)

DATA CENTER PDU CABLE ASSEMBLIES

Specifier Notes: This section covers PDU Cables prefabricated, computer-grade, branch-circuit,
power distribution unit (PDU) cable assemblies for use in access flooring for data center applications.
Consult PDU Cables for assistance in editing this section for the specific application and for more
information regarding custom capabilities.

Use PDU Cables Power Cable and Equipment Configurator Excel-based software program to create
custom cable assembly plans. Consult PDU Cables for more information regarding this software.

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SECTION INCLUDES

A. Prefabricated, computer-grade, branch-circuit, power distribution unit (PDU) cable assemblies


for use in access flooring for data center applications.

1.3 REFERENCE STANDARDS

1.4 SUBMITTALS

B. Product Data: Submit manufacturers product data, including installation instructions.

C. Samples: Submit manufacturers sample of prefabricated PDU cable assemblies.

D. Manufacturers Certification: Submit manufacturers certification that prefabricated PDU cable


assemblies comply with specified requirements and are suitable for intended application.

E. Test and Evaluation Reports: Submit manufacturers listing and file numbers showing that
prefabricated PDU cable assemblies have been tested and certified by independent testing
laboratory to UL requirements for data processing equipment cables.

F. Source Quality Control Submittals: Submit results of manufacturers factory tests on each
cable.

G. Warranty Documentation: Submit manufacturers standard warranty.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Delivery and Acceptance Requirements: Deliver materials to site in manufacturers original,


unopened barrel packaging, with labels clearly identifying product name, manufacturer,
contents, and installation locations.

B. Storage and Handling Requirements:


1. Store and handle materials in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
2. Keep materials in manufacturers original, unopened containers and packaging until
installation.
3. Store materials in clean, dry area indoors.
4. Protect materials during storage and handling to prevent damage.

2.2 DATA CENTER PDU CABLE ASSEMBLIES

A. Prefabricated PDU Cable Assemblies:


1. Compliance:
a. UL 2453.
b. Manufactured with UL-listed components.
c. Certified as complete UL-listed assembly.
d. UL-listed as Data Processing Equipment or Prefabricated Wiring Assemblies
e. NFPA 70-2011, Article 645.5.
2. Conductors:
a. Minimum #12 AWG stranded.
b. Type: THHN or THWN.
c. Wire Tail: Minimum 8-foot THHN.
d. Bond grounding conductor at junction box and device boxes and devices.
e. Circuit Identification Numbers:
1) On current-carrying conductors where multiple circuits are provided in same
raceway.
2) Identify, on box end and tail end of conduit, which device is supported by which
circuit number.
3. Conduit:

a. Liquid tight.
b. Integral Copper Ground Wire: Ensures proper EMI/RFI shielding and ground
bonding integrity.

2.4 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL

A. Tests:
1. Meet UL requirements for Data Processing Equipment cables or Wiring Assemblies.
2. Perform the following factory tests on each cable:
a. Ground integrity.
b. Continuity.
c. Insulation leakage.
d. Proper phase rotation.
e. Circuit Voltage Capacity: Hi-Pot tested at twice rated circuit voltage plus 1,000 volts.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine areas to receive prefabricated PDU cable assemblies.

B. Notify Architect of conditions that would adversely affect installation or subsequent use.

C. Do not begin installation until unacceptable conditions are corrected.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. Install prefabricated PDU cable assemblies in accordance with manufacturers instructions and
NFPA 70.

B. Install prefabricated PDU cable assemblies at locations indicated on the Drawings.

3.3 PROTECTION

A. Protect installed prefabricated PDU cable assemblies from damage during construction.
