Body Art Should be Allowed In the Workplace

Body art is very popular these days. The most common forms are tattoos and piercings.

There are other less common forms out there. It is a way to express what one likes and who one

is. In some workplaces, people will not hire workers if they have body art. Body art should be

allowed in the workplace as long as if it is not offensive or disgusting.

Many people get tattoos. In 2003 17% of people regret a tattoo and 83% do not regret a

tattoo. In 2012 14% of people regret getting a tattoo and 86% do not regret getting one. Most

people do not regret a tattoo. A lot of people get piercings. In 2012 49% of adults has pierced

ears and 4% of adults have a different face piercing. Body art is getting more and more popular

these days.

A childhood experience can affect peoples body art. Cassil is a girl who is a stunt person

and is really into body art and she had a childhood experience. Cassilss journey began with a

childhood diagnosis of a gall bladder disease (Iannacci,). She could have a tattoo that tells her

childhood story and it could have something to do with her gall bladder and how it affected her.

One should not judge someone based on the body art someone has. Their body art could symbol

something very important to them because of an emotional experience. One wouldn't want

someone picking on them because of their body art, especially if it means alot to him/her.

People want cheap tattoos and they get ones they regret but that doesn't make them a lazy

worker. Tattoos are popular and many people want one. Some people will not be careful about

getting a tattoo and get one they will later regret.. Currently one in five U.S. adults has at least

one tattoo(Braverman). it's pretty stupid to get a tattoo without thinking about it but that

doesn't mean the person is stupid. someone could have received the tattoo for his/her 18th

birthday and later realized that the tattoo doesn't make sense. A lot of people these days have a

tattoo and people should be more accepting of tattoos in the workplace.

Managers think body art is an unprofessional thing. 42 percent of managers said their

opinion of someone would be lowered by that person's visible body art. People should not judge

each other based on their body art (Braverman ). 44 percent of managers said they had

tattoos or body piercings in places other than the ears (Braverman). Managers have body art

and they will not hire someone because he/she has body art. Because whether someone is a good

worker has nothing to do with the fact he/she has body art.

If your body art does not put you in danger in the workplace it should be alright.

People working near electric lines including telegraph workers, should refrain from wearing all

types of jewelry (Jefkin-Elnetive).

People should respect body art and let people with body art in the workplace should not

be the ones to not get the job because they have body art. Consistency, respect for diversity are

keys to a successful policy (Braverman ). People who are hiring should not be bothered too

much by body art. The person who has a tattoo might be a better worker than the one who

doesn't.

Companies today shouldn't be too bothered by tattoos one reason is that soccer moms to

mit computer science graduates sporting tattoos, preconceptions about tattooed individuals are no

longer valid. The hirers should just work on finding the best person for the job (Iannacci).

Tattoos are not gonna be a big deal for hiring in the future. As long as they are not offensive or

disgusting then they will not be seen as a big deal even if they are visible and all over your arms.

The people hiring will not think about your tattoos they will think about your degree and how

qualified you are for the job.

Body art could be a tribal thing. In tribes, it is a way of distinguishing one tribe from

another. They view it as an identity thing and a culture thing. In tribal regions of africa and

asia, piercing, tattoos and self inflicted scars are an indicator of cultural

identity(Jefkin-Elnetive). people in tribes do body art to convey beauty, wealth status bravery

or to appease the spirits. If a woman got married then she would have body art to show off that

she got married. akha women of thailand wear an elaborate silver headdress that might weigh

as much as ten pounds. Yet they wear it all the time. (Jefkin-Elnetive). To appease the spirits.

Body art should be allowed in the workplace for so many reasons. Tattoos and piercings

are becoming so popular that the workplace should just stop trying to avoid people with them.
