2. Which of the 4 managerial functions are evident in this case?

Explain.
Firstly, there is evidence of the managerial function, Planning. This is
shown by Jennifer Reingolds act of logged on to DDIs Assessing Talent
Portal, which gave me financial and historical information about my
fictitious company which shows that Jennifer tried to get information
before the simulation began so as to be prepared for the scenario. This is
a major part of the planning function so that she can prepare herself for
all sorts of problems and obstacles she was going to face. In addition to
that, she had to Write a business plan by 4p.m. which are also part of
the planning function.
Secondly, there is presence of organising function, which is exhibited by
Jennifer when she organises herself for the TV interview to address
concerns that one of our security robots caused a teenagers death. This
interview required Jennifer to prepare her talk and determine the points
that she was going to talk about and how she would handle the entire
interview. This incident required a proper organising hence the organising
function.
Thirdly, there is the leading function evident in Jennifer Reingolds day.
She had to record an inspirational voice mail to introduce Kelly to the
staff This shows that she is trying to create a bond between the staff and
herself so that they can work along well without disputes. This further
implies that she is trying to get friendly with the existing staff so that she
can understand their skills and talents which would enable her to
recognise the right staff for a particular project/task.
Finally, there is the controlling function used by Jennifer Reingold. This is
showcased by Jennifer when she announced $1000-to-$25000 bonuses to
anyone with ideas that help the company. This action was in order to
bring about motivation among staff to increase their productivity.
Controlling function is to ensure that all other managerial function are
working in a balance so that they can increase the work productivity. Her
incentive to pay bonus to staff who would give an idea that would help the
company increased their productivity.

3. In what respects is this a managers typical day?

Kelly Myers, Vice president of Global solutions has a major role in the
organisation. She is responsible for carrying out strategic plans that the
President comes up with, by overseeing operations, developing functional
roles and handing over responsibilities to employees. She is supposed to
be involved in operational aspects of the firm. The passage exactly shows
Jennifer Reingold doing such. She was instructed by her boss, It is
imperative that you gain Martys buy-in. This was decision taken by her
boss however she has to see that this task is carried out, just as her role
expects.
Moreover she is expected to report on the goals and accomplishments of
the firm. She is supposed to check on the job performance of her
employees. More importantly, a Vice President is supposed to be excellent
at building employer employee relationships. We have also seen such
acts by Jennifer Reingold during her day. It is evident that she reported on
the goals and accomplishments of the firm during the business-plan
presentation. Although she avoided the technical side of the presentation
involving the marginal costs among others, she managed to use her
marketing skills and knowledge to address the product launch of the
robot. Finally it is also evident that her strategies to building employer
employee relationships are well effective. For example, a voice mail her
inspiration voice to introduce herself to the staff as well as the incentive of
bonuses to employee who would showcase productivity. Such acts help
build strong employer employee relationships as the employees feel
their needs are being catered for.
4. Based on the trait profiles in Table 1.3 did Jennifer Reingold act more
like an administrator or entrepreneur? Explain.
It was evident that she behaved more like an administrator during her day.
First and foremost, like an administrator, she Focused on the established
present. This was evident when her attention was captured by the fact
that Margins were falling, inventories were rising, and the Jeeves a
robotic valet had started doing odd things This facts were all
concerning the present state of Global Solutions. These facts were
obstacles that Jennifer has to get rid of. Rather than concentrating on the
potential of the company and its ability to make world class drones and
robots, she was preoccupied by a faulty robot that had critical problems.
Secondly, she obtained motivation from leading others. This is evident
when she announced an incentive of bonuses to the staff. She felt more at
power with her staff alongside her. This shows that she needed a team
that she could lead in order to inspire motivation.
Moreover, she possesses managerial knowledge and experience. This is
evident from the way she handled Martys buy-in, as well as the hotelier.
She managed to motivate Marty using strategy such as carrot and stick
which means that the agreement had a positive side for Marty as well as
an opportunity to gain a lot from the deal. This is the managerial
knowledge that Jennifer possesses. Furthermore, the way she handled the
hotelier was also incredible; placating her as well as providing a solution
to her problem. This showcases the managerial experience she has
acquired on handling critical issues and retaining customers.
Despite the various aspects of an administrator that Jennifer Reingold
showcased, her certain actions brought her up as an entrepreneur. This
was clearly evident when she diverted the business plan presentation,
addressing the robotic valet, completely towards the marketing aspect,
hence emphasizing on the external/market dimensions.
Finally her incentive to provide bonuses to employees was an action to
motivate them, however this was a major risk she took considering the
current state of the firm. Therefore, she exhibits moderate to high risk-
taking behaviour which also brings her up as an entrepreneur.
