Fear grabs a hold of me, sends a chill down my spine as I write these words. Deep in the south, and deeper
still down this regions mighty caverns, lives a truth most of us are just too eager to dismiss.
Where chasms grow, giving way to eternal darkness, it is not just the wind trapped in the cracks and
hollows you hear resounding, bellowing.
Too many travellers unaware of the dangers they were surrounded by sought refuge in these caves,
entered and never returned. A whole world exists, deep below and hidden from our sight. Creatures of
unspeakable horror roam these realms, just waiting for the unwary wanderer to enter as the spider and
its web await the fly.
Whole ancient peoples are said to have vanished in those depths, while I speculate some could have
survived and become part of this world beneath our feet. Stories from those lucky few who survived their
intentional or unintentional encounters with the cave dwellers lead me to believe in a societal structure
among those repelling degenerates. Judging by the descriptions there are groups of ghoul-like men, naked
or draped in nothing but dirty shreds of cloth.
These groups seem to communicate and have a hierarchy, each group led by an individual more assertive
than the others. Accompanying these packs are giant spiders or sowbugs, cave trolls and beings that
beggar all description. Interestingly though, there seems to be no real cooperation between all these
different kinds of creatures. They just seem to react simultaneously and viciously to any disturbance
coming from the outer world.
Other elements they have in common are their
awful smell and a kind of plague that seems to
coexist with these creatures. While they carry
the disease and show signs of it, they do not
seem to suffer or die from it. To any
outsider this sickness proves to be the
most effective weapon in the cave
dwellers arsenal. Most men exposed to
what we call The Blight die within a
matter of hours.
It therefore seems likely we will
never be able to explore this world,
even though it is right underneath
us, and the vast caverns will
forever stay shrouded in
mystery.
Your warband can be led by one of two kinds of Warlords.
By a Pack Master.
A Pack Master is equipped with a handweapon & shield. He generates three Attack Dice during Melee.
At the beginning of a turn a Pack Master generates three Saga Dice.
By a Howler.
A Howler fights with its bare claws and counts as being equipped with a handweapon & shield.
It follows the rules for Terrifying and Wild Attack.
Up to one point of your Giant Creatures may be fielded as Cave Troll the unit gains Terrifying.
Troll Slime
It is hard to fight a Cave Troll and not be affected by the venomous excretions of its skin.
During Melee any of the trolls Attack Rolls with a natural result of 1 automatically becomes a hit.
Up to one point of your Giant Creatures may be fielded as Cave Fiend the unit gains Terrifying.
Aura Of Decay
During step 0 of a Melee the player controlling the Cave Fiend may discard one Fatigue from each
enemy unit engaged with the Cave Fiend and distribute two Blight Markers to each unit from which he
discarded a Fatigue this way.
Right before you, the Troglodytes player, start your first turn in a game,
you designate four enemy units. These units immediately gain one Blight Marker each.
You then begin your first turn.
Blight Markers can be compared to Fatigue Markers and exist parallel to these.
A unit can have an unlimited number of Blight Markers.
A unit can also rest in order to discard a Blight Marker.
This means that a unit activated to rest always has the choice to either discard one of its Fatigue
Markers or one of its Blight Markers. But a Saga Ability that lets you discard (any number of) Fatigue
can never be used to discard Blight Markers, it only works for the Fatigue.
