Lesson Plan English Language Arts

Class: English Language Arts (Gr. 7E, Gr.8 A, B, C, & D) Date: March 17, 2017
Time: 50 minutes

I. Curriculum Standard/Outcome (Number in the curriculum document):

2. Students will be expected to communicate information and ideas effectively and


clearly, and to respond personally and critically.
: Understand the importance of adapting communication choices such as vocabulary, sentence structure,
rate of speech, and tone to meet the needs of different purposes and audiences; select suitable
communication choices in various speaking contexts.
: Give instructions and respond appropriately to instructions, directions, and questions.

II. Learning Objective(s)/Goal(s) (Big Ideas, Key Questions):


Students will be introduced to the four different types of conflicts and how that came be used in
writing.
III. Lesson Rational:
This lesson is to introduce students to what the four types of conflicts (Man vs. Man, Man vs.
Self, Man vs. Nature and Man vs. Society) are and how it can be use appropriately in writing.
This is to get students working with their hands and learning about the meaning of interjection by
coloring, cutting and writing about these types of conflicts and to add it to their interactive
workbook (Mini Lessons Book). Students will also be given examples of the four types of
conflicts and how they are used in writing.
IV. Materials & Resources (teachers materials, Students materials etc.):
Computer, Projector, Handout, Pencil Crayons, Scissors, Glue (teacher)
Pencil Crayons, Scissors, Glue (student)
V. Technology Used (if appropriate):
Computer and Projector to show students the lyrics to the song (teacher)
VI. Learning Cycle:
1. Students will begin with DEAR (Drop everything and read). Student will either have their
own books or will take one from the class. (15 minutes)
2. Students will hear a song (see lyrics behind the lesson) that explains the four types of
conflict. Following that, a review of the definitions of all four types will be on the board
to go over with the students. Examples of each kind of conflict will be read and the
student will have to guess which type of conflict it is.
3. Students will be given the handout on the four types of conflicts and they will be adding
it to their interactive notebook filled out.
4. Once students have written down the meanings, they will color the worksheet, cut it and
add it to their interactive workbook. Students will also add to their table of content: p. 62:
Four types of Conflicts. (Steps 2-4 should take to the end of class)
5. If there is time left, students will work on their sacred writing or reading.

A handout with the definition already written on the sheet will be provided.

VIII. Evaluation/Assessment of Student Progress:

The teacher will circulate with the students to make sure the instructions are clear and they
understand.
