COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students who wish to take an online learning
course at Wilmington University must first complete the prerequisite course DIS 095, Online Learning Orientation for Students. This orientation is a free, non-credit course that provides the student with the background knowledge necessary to engage in an online environment. The student will complete self-paced learning modules. The orientation can be completed on Blackboard in approximately 60 -90 minutes.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Identify the technology that you will need to be successful in online
coursework. Post to the Discussion Board Utilize video technology in the Blackboard Learning Management System by creating a video introduction Identify useful strategies to achieve successful learning in the online environment Identify the key components of the University's Academic Integrity Policy Identify strategies that will help you manage your time and study effectively Submit an assignment using the assignment tool Submit a SafeAssign assignment Function within online groups, blogs, wikis, and journals Access your grades and view feedback for submitted assignments Locate faculty contact information Access and use email from within Blackboard Interact with instructors and classmates via the Collaborate tool Effectively communicate with faculty and classmates utilizing the Netiquette Rules Identify and know how to contact the Online Student Navigator Find information about Financial Aid, Registration, Academic Advising, and Student Service Locate important information in WebCampus
SUPPLEMENTAL OBJECTIVES: The course is a student centered learning
environment to learn about online course structure and Blackboard skills.
METHODOLOGY:
Teaching Methods: The course is a self-paced course designed to
familiarize a student with the course menu outline and various activities to complete in the following categories:
Learning Online Assignments and Grades Communication and Collaborating Online Online Student Help and Resources
Evaluation Procedures: Students will successfully pass DIS095 with a
100% or higher. Each of the 6 modules contains a 5-question quiz with the final module quiz containing 10 questions. This final assessment can be taken as often as required. Upon scoring a passing grade and following the link to login to WebCampus, the student will receive a certificate of completion.
