Right triangles are often used in navigation. Being able to find the
angle between the lines of sight to two points of reference, for example,
landmarks or stars, and the distances from the points of reference
allow the navigator to determine the location of the ship.

Key Concepts
The opposite side and the adjacent side of a right triangle are
named relative to the angle being considered.
