asaperson.Whenstudentsknowtheyaretrulycaredfor,theyaremorewillingandcommi edtofocusonthecontent.

Asamathteacher,Ibelieveallstudentshavetheabilitytounderstandmathema calconcepts,butsome meslackthe

condenceneededtomakemistakesandstretchthemselvestolearnnewmaterial.AspecicchangeImadeinmy
classeswastoteachstudentstheimportanceofdevelopingagrowthmindset,specicallytowardsmath.Theresultof
thiswasthatstudentsweremoreengagedintheprocessandtheireorttotryimproved,asevidencedbycertain
studentsa emp ngmoreproblemsontestsandexit cketsthanbefore.

AnapproachtoteachingmaththatIholdtrueisprovidingacontextinwhichallstudentsareabletoaccessthemath
content.DuringTrigonometrywestudieddirectconnec onsofmathtotheeldsofphysics,astronomy,engineering,
biology,andsports.W
henlearningaboutexponentsandlogarithms,weanalyzed,modeled,andpredictedthegrowthof
invasivespecies.Learningmaththroughthesecontextsresultedinmorestudentinvolvementinthelearningprocessand
thoroughcomprehensionofthemathcontent,asseeninforma veandsumma veassessments.
