OVERVIEW

An aircraft maintenance engineer (AME) is responsible for maintenance and inspection of aircraft. This includes trouble
shooting and the maintenance release or (certification) of the work performed on aircraft. This occupation requires a high
degree of responsibility and skill, including:
> Certifying as airworthy work performed on aircraft engines, and systems in fixed wing and helicopters;
> Troubleshooting aircraft structural, mechanical, or electrical systems to identify problems;
> Adjusting and repairing systems according to specifications, technical drawings, manuals, and established procedures;
> Repairing and overhauling aircraft structural, mechanical, or electrical systems;
> Installing or modifying aircraft engines, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, flight control, fuel, and pneumatic systems;
> Dismantling airframes, aircraft engines or other aircraft systems for repair, overhaul, inspection, and reassembly.

Stage I: Applied Technical Literacy Course ACES 0100

> Specialized course delivered by BCIT faculty, serves as a bridging component, and prepares international students
in applied technical literacy for the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Category M (Maintenance) program
> Students will study in classrooms and workshops to gain hands-on experience with the tools and equipment used
in the program.
30 hours/week for 5 weeks; $2527.52 CAD*

Stage II: Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Category M (Maintenance) Program

> Consists of 16 continuous months with short breaks in December and August
> Students spend approximately half of their day on theory discussions in the classroom and the other half practicing
their skills in the shops and hangar located at BCITs state-of-the-art Aerospace Technology Campus
> Upon completion, students receive an experience credit of 18 months (of the 48 months required by Transport
Canada to obtain an AME M licence
> Students may qualify for national certification from Transport Canada and the Canadian Aviation Maintenance Council.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES
For the last 40 years, graduates from the AME M program have found employment in both the national and international
aviation industry. Some graduates have gone on to become managers and owners of domestic and international aircraft
maintenance establishments. Graduates are in high demand as the number of job openings is expected to exceed the
supply of qualified applicants.

> BCITs Trades Pre-entry Test in Mechanical Reasoning
> Completion of ACES 0100 70% pass
